Honestly im so fed up with these price trackers because they keep letting me down right when I need them most. Ive been trying to track this specific Gaggia espresso machine for my new kitchen setup since the renovations are supposed to be done in like three weeks and I really dont want to overpay. I was using one extension-not gonna name names but it rhymes with shmamel-and it literally told me the price dropped ten minutes after it already went back up. Its so frustrating spending all this time setting up alerts just for the app to lag or show me data from two days ago. I have a strict $400 budget for this and every time I think I found a deal the tracker is just wrong or the graph is missing the actual lowest point. I need something that actually works in real time and doesnt just sit there spinning its wheels while the sale ends. Is Keepa actually better or is there something else I should be looking at for Chrome? Which extension is actually the most reliable for tracking Amazon price history without all the lag?
just saw this thread and wow, i totally feel your frustration! i went through the exact same thing when i was building out my dream espresso bar last year. i was hunting for a specific grinder and it felt like every single extension was lying to me! i remember sitting there at 2am refreshing pages like a crazy person because the alerts were coming in so late. i love the thrill of the hunt but the lag is just soul-crushing when you have a strict budget like your $400 limit!! honestly i think i heard somewhere that some of these older tools have trouble with how amazon updates their backend nowadays. iirc there was some big technical change with their data scraping that made things slower for the big names. here is what i have been playing around with lately:
TL;DR: Keepa is the industry standard for data frequency, but the UI is a bit messy. The lag you're seeing is basically down to slow scraping intervals. Most free tools only refresh every few hours. Keepa is much better for something like a Gaggia because it tracks New, Used, and Warehouse Deals as separate data points. I would suggest being careful with the settings tho. Make sure to filter for Sold by Amazon so you dont get alerts for third-party sellers with hidden shipping costs. That'll blow your 400 dollar budget fast. Also, if you're shopping around at other stores for the renovation, PriceDropCatch is great for tracking prices in the background. Its super helpful for snagging deals before they expire. Just keep an eye on those price hooks... real-time data is everything when you're on a deadline.
