Is Amazon Wishlist better than 3rd party registries for wedding gifts?

I'm getting married in June and honestly I'm so lost with all this gift stuff. My fiancé and I live in a pretty small town so we don't have many stores nearby besides a Walmart and maybe a Target like an hour away. I was looking at making a list for people to buy us stuff but I dont know if I should just use a regular Amazon wishlist or one of those specific wedding registry sites like Zola or The Knot. I am really sorry if this is a super dumb question but I literally have no idea what the difference is lol. Like if I just make a normal wishlist on Amazon does it work the same way as a registry?

Will people know what has been bought already so we dont end up with five toasters? I saw some people saying the 3rd party ones let you add stuff from any store which sounds cool because there is this specific set of ceramic plates I want from a small boutique in the city. I have a few things in mind:

  • new kitchen stuff
  • nice towels for the guest bath
  • some gardening tools

But then I am worried it will be too confusing for my older relatives who only know how to use Amazon. We are trying to keep things simple since we are both working full time and the wedding is coming up fast. Is there a big benefit to those dedicated registry sites over just sticking to a basic Amazon list?

In my experience, never use a basic wishlist for a wedding. You need an actual registry tool or things get messy fast.

  • Amazon Wedding Registry: Simple for older folks and much better than a standard wishlist because it tracks purchases.
  • Zola: Perfect for adding that boutique shop and syncing everything in one place. Ive seen people use both, but Zola is usually my top pick for flexibility.

I actually had issues with trying to share Amazon Wishlist for a big event recently. It was pretty disappointing because standard lists dont mark things as bought properly.

  • No purchase tracking on basic lists
  • You miss the 20 percent completion discount If you want that boutique stuff, use the Amazon Registry browser extension. It lets you add items from any site while keeping it simple for the older relatives.
