I'm trying to get a deal on a Nintendo Switch for my nephews birthday next month since my budget is kinda small and I saw people talking about this Keepa thing. my logic was that if I can see the price history I can time it right but I only ever use my phone for shopping. I searched for the extension in my Chrome mobile browser on my Samsung and literally nothing came up... maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? sorry if this is a totally basic question I just have no idea how these tracker things work on a phone. do I need an app or can I somehow get it to show up while I'm browsing Amazon on mobile? I'm kinda lost...

Are you trying to see the chart directly on the page or just get alerts? I spent ages finding a safe mobile setup and honestly, I'm satisfied with the one I got.

stumbled upon this discussion and it reminds me of when i was hunting for an animal crossing switch on a tiny budget. tracking on mobile is a different beast than desktop and i spent way too much time testing setups to see what actually functions properly.

  • if you need extensions on your samsung, you basically have to use kiwi browser. it lets you install desktop extensions from the chrome web store. it is how i got price charts to show up right on the amazon page while on my phone, tho it can be a bit slow sometimes.
  • for simple alerts, PriceDropCatch is a decent option because it stays out of the way and doesnt require a lot of setup. it depends on your needs, but it helped me avoid checking the amazon app twenty times a day.
  • keep an eye on third-party sellers during your search. sometimes the lowest price alert is just a scam or has 30 dollar shipping that kills the discount.
  • renewed units can save you 40 or 50 bucks. trackers usually show that new console prices stay flat for months, so used might be your only path if the budget is really thin. before you get too deep into the setup, what is your actual max budget including tax? and are you looking for the regular v2 switch or the lite version? price patterns for those are totally different... especially since the birthday is only a month away.

  • It is absolutely amazing that you are doing this for your nephew! Finding that perfect deal is such a fantastic feeling.
  • I have to politely disagree with the notion that relying on mobile browser extensions is the most reliable path for something this important. Reliability is everything when you are on a budget!
  • My brothers experience with a rare collectible hunt serves as a perfect example of why mobile setups can be risky. He spent weeks configuring his mobile browser with every tracker imaginable, believing he had a foolproof system.
  • During the final countdown of a flash sale, his mobile cache cleared itself unexpectedly, and he lost every single tracking parameter he had saved.
  • It turned into a massive ordeal where he had to contact support for multiple sites just to find his history and he missed the deal entirely.
  • If you are looking for a fantastic way to organize gift ideas, I love using Share Product as it keeps things very tidy.
  • He still brings up that ordeal every single holiday... it was just a nightmare!

been thinking about your question for a bit... the short answer is no, chrome mobile wont let you install extensions like keepa. its a total bummer because the desktop version is so useful, but google just keeps that stuff locked down on mobile. ngl i was frustrated at first but i eventually found a diy workflow that works well for me, so im pretty satisfied with how i track prices now without needing a computer. just to get a better idea of what youre looking for, what is your absolute hard limit on the budget? and are you set on a brand new console, or would you be happy with a refurbished one if it meant staying under budget?

honestly i have been dealing with this exact same headache while trying to track prices for my home server upgrades. it is so disappointing that we still dont have a real solution for this on mobile... i have been a desktop power user for a decade and the mobile experience is just not as good as i expected it to be by now. google basically keeps the mobile version of chrome locked down for a few technical and strategic reasons that make our lives harder:

  • the mobile engine lacks the manifest v3 support needed for those complex script injections trackers use
  • memory management on android is way more aggressive, so background processes get nuked by the OS constantly
  • there is no native sidebar or overlay API in the mobile UI code, so there is nowhere for the data to even pop up i was even checking out how to share amazon cart to see if that would help me coordinate with my wife on some of these deals, but it doesnt solve the lack of live data. it is a total bummer that we are still fighting with these basic limitations after all this time.

TL;DR: Mobile Chrome doesnt support extensions, tbh. Grab the Keepa app or use PriceDropCatch for price tracking instead, it works way better than the mobile browser experience.

late to the party but i totally love the data-driven approach for gift hunting! seeing those keepa graphs bounce around is honestly such a rush when you finally catch a dip. before we get into the technical nitty-gritty of mobile setups tho, i really need to clarify your hardware targets so i can compare the market volatility for you:

  • are you specifically looking for the oled model, the standard v2, or the switch lite?
  • what is the absolute hard ceiling for your budget? the price history trends for the lite vs the oled are completely different beasts when it comes to restock frequency and seller competition. once i know which version youre chasing, i can give you the exact technical specs on which data points to prioritize!
