Wedding is this July and I'm torn between using Zola or just a plain Amazon wishlist. We have about 100 guests and a lot of them are older family members who aren't great with computers. Zola looks way nicer and lets me pull in stuff from different shops like West Elm but I'm worried people will get confused by the redirecting. Amazon is just so easy since everyone has Prime already but then I'm limited to only what they sell. I want the variety but don't want to make things hard for guests. Do guests find third-party registries more difficult to use than Amazon wishlists?
I went through this exact same thing last year and honestly, go with both if you can! I used Zola for the pretty stuff but let me tell you, the older guests flocked to the Amazon list like crazy. People just trust what they know! Amazon is basically the default for everyone these days because they already have their cards saved and know the checkout process by heart. Zola is fantastic for the aesthetic and those cool custom cash funds, but the redirects to West Elm or Crate and Barrel definitely tripped up my older family members. My aunt literally called me crying because she thought shed left my registry by mistake.
Just caught this and wanted to add a few technical bits. The main issue with Zola is how it handles external links to other stores. That often just redirects people to the other site, and then the guest has to come back to Zola to mark it as bought manually. My older relatives got lost doing that every single time. If you really want variety without the technical headache, maybe check out MyRegistry because their browser extension is pretty stable for syncing. Also, the Joy platform is a decent alternative because the UI is super clean and less cluttered. Keeping things simple is usually a safer bet for the guest experience. It definitely saves you from getting a dozen phone calls from confused family members while youre trying to plan everything else.
