Are there tools to track price history and verify Amazon sales?

I need to buy about 1200 dollars worth of office gear - standing desk, monitor, ergonomic chair - for my new remote job that starts next Monday, so I am in a massive rush to get this ordered today or tomorrow. I want to make sure I am actually getting a good deal and not falling for those fake list price discounts Amazon sellers love to do.

I have been looking at these options:

  • Keepa
  • CamelCamelCamel
  • Honey browser extension

My logic was that CamelCamelCamel seems easier to read at a glance, but then I saw Keepa has that browser extension that embeds right on the page which would save me so much time since I am on a super tight deadline. But then I also heard Keepa hides some of their BSR and price history data behind a paywall now? I really dont want to pay for a subscription just for a one-time purchase haul. Honey seems okay but I dont know if their price history is actually accurate or just geared towards coupons.

Is Keepas free version enough to see if a sale price is actually legit, or is CamelCamelCamel better for quick checks? I really need to make these decisions tonight...

Look, since you're in a huge rush, I gotta warn you... dont just trust that little red Sale badge on the product page. I've been doing this for years and those list prices are often totally made up to make a mediocre price look like a steal. I once saw a monitor marked 40% off that was actually 20 dollars cheaper the month before. Keepa is definitely my go-to because having the chart right there on the product page is a lifesaver when you're browsing fast. Honestly, the free version is plenty for just verifying price history. You mostly only need the paid subscription if you're a pro seller tracking sales rank or buy box data. Just a few things to consider before you pull the trigger on a 1200 dollar haul:

  • Double check if the sale price is only for a specific color of that desk, sometimes the one you actually want is full price.
  • Be super careful with third-party sellers on the ergonomic chairs because shipping can take forever and returns are a total nightmare.
  • Watch out for those clippable coupons you have to check a box for, Keepa doesn't always factor those into the main graph price. CamelCamelCamel is fine but it feels kinda clunky having to copy-paste links back and forth when you're on a deadline. Honey is basically just for finding promo codes that usually don't even work anyway... it's not nearly as precise for actual price tracking. I'd suggest sticking with the Keepa extension and just verifying that the current price isn't actually just the normal price from three weeks ago. Good luck with the new job tho!
