So stoked for my new Chicago job starting Monday! I'm torn between the XM5 and the XM4 though. Read the XM5 has better tech but the XM4 is way more portable for my commute.

  • Budget: $300
  • Use: 8hr office shifts
  • Goal: Block out loud talkers

Which ones actually feel better for all-day wear?

Just caught this thread. I've been super happy with my Sony WH-1000XM4 Wireless Noise Cancelling Over-the-Ear Headphones. Those Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones hinges looked a bit fragile for a daily commute tho, so I went for the sturdier build. They block out my loud coworkers just fine and I have zero complaints after 8 hours. Maybe check out the Bose QuietComfort Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones if you want something lighter.

Tbh I was pretty let down by the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones when I finally tried them. They feel super plasticky for the price and the hinge design is kinda a disaster waiting to happen if you're tossing them in a bag every day for work.

The noise cancelling is solid too.

The tech in the XM5 is flashy but unfortunately it just doesnt feel like it'll last three years of daily office wear. Stick with something sturdier if you want them to last. Congrats on the new gig tho!
