Which Sony headphones are actually gonna hold up for heavy gym sessions and daily runs without sliding off my head? Im really torn between the WH-1000XM5 over-ears and the WF-1000XM5 earbuds right now. I have a budget of about $350 and I need to make a decision by next week because Im starting a 12-week training block for a half-marathon here in Seattle. The over-ears look so comfy and the noise cancelling would be amazing for blocking out the terrible gym music but Im honestly terrified the ear pads are gonna get ruined by sweat within a month or that theyll just fly off when I start hitting my stride on the treadmill.
Then there are the buds which seem like the logical choice for running but my ears are weirdly shaped and I always have issues with things staying put. I saw some people say the foam tips on the XM5 buds are a game changer but others say they crumble if they get too wet. I do a mix of heavy lifting and about 20-30 miles of running a week so they gotta be versatile. Is the sound quality on the buds good enough to justify the fit risk or should I just get the big ones and pray they dont slide off? I just dont want to spend this much money and have them break or feel annoying while Im trying to focus...
> the ear pads are gonna get ruined by sweat within a month Over-ears aren't suitable for distance running. The Sony WF-1000XM5 Noise Cancelling Earbuds provide much better stability and moisture resistance for a high-intensity 12-week training block.
Unfortunately, I had issues with those specific designs for heavy training.
