ive got a wedding shoot this sunday in orlando and its gonna be brutal in that sun so i really need an external monitor for my a7S III like right now. my budget is capped at $500 which makes it tricky. i was looking at the atomos ninja v because everyone talks about it but then i saw people saying it gets super hot and the fan is loud. then i saw the portkeys lh5p II which has the camera control stuff but im worried the UI is a mess. my logic was the ninja is the safe bet for color but if im just using it for framing and focus in bright daylight maybe there is something better? i just need something that wont die in the heat or wash out completely...

Coming back to this... are you recording externally or just using the screen for framing? That makes a massive difference for heat management in that Orlando sun! If you just want pure visibility, check these:

honestly, those cheap sunhoods help way more than high nits. i think youll struggle with any screen without one. not sure but i recall someone saying plastic bodies stay cooler than metal in orlando heat.

  • keep a white towel to throw over the rig between shots
  • get big batteries since heat drains them fast
  • look for simple menus so you arent menu diving in glare
