When is the release date for Sony FX3 II?

Totally agree that we’re looking at a late 2025 window, especially since the a7V needs to set the new sensor benchmark first. Having put thousands of hours on the Sony FX3 for pro sets, waiting for a v2 seems unnecessary when the current firmware has kept this thing so competitive. Quick tip: focus on the *ecosystem* rather than the body. If you get the current model, invest in solid V-mount batteries and high-end glass. This sensor is still the gold standard for low-light 4K and handles 10-bit 4:2:2 workflows perfectly for broadcast standards. It’s a workhorse that isn't going obsolete anytime soon tho.

Just Sony FX3, why wait for FX3 II?

Can vouch for this

Honestly, nobody knows the exact date yet, but I wouldnt hold ur breath for a release this year. When a v2 eventually drops, the real headache is always going to be the technical fitment and compatibility stuff with ur existing gear. Basically, whenever they change the body even slightly, all ur current rigging goes out the window.

  • cage dimensions never match up between versions
  • button placement shifts just enough to ruin muscle memory
  • port clearances for HDMI and power often change
  • baseplate alignment usually gets messed with Tbh, if ur looking for a solid path, just stick with any of the cinema line from Sony and you'll be fine. They keep the lens mount consistent which is the main thing to worry about. I mean, well actually, the mount is the only thing that stays the same while the bodies just cause mounting issues. If you need to shoot now, just get into the ecosystem and dont sweat the specific body too much.

Yeah, I'm definitely in the camp that thinks we're a ways off. Honestly, I'm a bit CAUTIOUS about what a v2 would even look like if they try to cram too much in—I've spent a lot of time stress-testing my current setup during long summer shoots and the thermal reliability is the big thing for me. Basically, I'm more worried about a new model having overheating issues or weird firmware bugs than I am about needing more megapixels or whatever. I’d rather stick with a proven workhorse that I know won't die on me mid-set. So yeah, even if it drops in late 2025 like people are saying, I’ll probably just wait and see how the early benchmarks look before even thinking about switching. Tbh, as long as it handles the 10-bit stuff without throttling, I'm happy for now.

I actually disagree slightly with the 2025 prediction. From a technical standpoint, I think Sony is holding off until they can implement a faster data bus, probably for CFexpress 4.0 support. If you look at the specs of the current BIONZ XR, it is already pushed pretty hard. A v2 would need to handle significantly higher bitrates to be a real upgrade, and that means better heat dissipation and faster media. Quick tips:

  • If you are buying now, stick to Sony Tough CFexpress Type A 160GB cards because they handle the heat better during long 4K 120p takes.
  • Get a high-quality reader like the Sony MRW-G2 to keep your workflow efficient while we wait for the hardware to catch up. Honestly, the current model is so optimized that a v2 might actually introduce more technical headaches than it solves right now...

I guess it will be announced in late 2025.
