Pricing is $6,499 for the body. Unfortunately, it feels like Sony is just resting on their laurels with this price point. I was hoping for something a bit more disruptive given how good the competition is now. Heres my take on the value proposition right now:

  • Its $6,499.99, same as the original launch.
  • If you are coming from a different system, maybe look at the Nikon Z9 Mirrorless Camera which is cheaper and handles thermals better in my experience.
  • The original Sony Alpha 1 Mirrorless Camera had issues with the menu lag sometimes and I really hope this update fixed the processor bottleneck.
  • For most people, the Sony Alpha 7R V Mirrorless Camera actually offers better value if you just want the high resolution and the AI autofocus. If you are stuck on which one fits your workflow, just ask. I've put way too many shutter clicks on these bodies over the years so i can tell you what actually matters in the field.

^ This. Also, that price tag is definitely a tough pill to swallow. I remember being so happy when I finally got my current kit dialed in a few years back, it worked well for my birding trips and I've honestly had no complaints with the results. Tbh, I've been perfectly satisfied lately sticking with gear that is a generation or two old because the price-to-performance ratio is just so much better. I'm curious tho, what specific features are you chasing with this one? Are you needing the absolute fastest readout for professional sports, or is this more of a high-end hobby purchase where you just want the latest tech? Also, what kind of lenses are you already invested in, cause that usually dictates the real cost more than the body alone.
