Hey everyone! I just treated myself to a Sony a7 IV, and I'm super excited to focus on landscape photography. I’m transitioning from an older DSLR, so I really want to build a kit that does this sensor justice. I’ve got my lenses sorted, but I’m curious about the 'non-lens' essentials. I’m specifically looking for a rugged, lightweight tripod that can handle coastal winds and advice on a solid circular polarizer or ND filter system for those long exposures. Also, given the file sizes, are there specific high-speed SD cards you swear by? What are the absolute must-have accessories you’d recommend for a dedicated Sony landscape setup?

In my experience, for coastal winds you need weight or a hook. I'd suggest:

- Sirui AM-254 Tripod with K-20X Ball Head - it's pretty light but stable if you hang ur bag on it.
- Haida M10 Filter Holder Kit - tbh cheaper than Nisi but basically same quality for long exposures.
- SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-II Card - these are bulletproof for those big raw files.

hope that helps!

ok so i've been doing this for five years and salt spray KILLS gear, so be careful... for a budget tripod, i'd suggest the Manfrotto MT055XPRO3 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod—it's around $200 and reallyyy stable. honestly, the Hoya 77mm NXT Plus Circular Polarizer is amazing for the price. for cards, maybe the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I Card works for u? it's cheap, but maybe too slow for 4k? idk. gl!!

yo, congrats on the a7 IV!! it’s seriously such a beast for landscapes. i’ve been shooting for about 12 years now and i totally get the struggle of trying to build a solid kit without blowing your entire savings account right after buying a new body. tbh, you dont need to buy the most expensive luxury brands to get pro results.

For your tripod, i’d skip the $1k stuff and look at the Sirui AM-284 Carbon Fiber Tripod with A-10R Ball Head. it usually runs around $200-$220. it’s super lightweight but actually holds up well in coastal winds... just make sure to hang your camera bag from the weight hook if it gets crazy.

for filters, i highkey recommend the K&F Concept 77mm Nano-X Magnetic Circular Polarizer and ND Filter Kit. it’s like $150 and way faster than screw-on filters when youre chasing the light. basically, the magnetic rings are a game changer for long exposures.

regarding those massive files, you definitely need UHS-II cards. dont waste money on V90 cards though, they’re kinda overkill for landscape stills. i’ve been using the Lexar Professional 1667x 128GB SDXC UHS-II Card for ages. it’s a V60 card, costs about $40, and handles the a7 IV buffer perfectly fine. plus, it saves you like $100 compared to the Sony Tough cards lol.

anyway, thats my two cents from years of trial and error!! let me know if u need more help picking out a bag or anything else. good luck!

ngl i am in the exact same boat as you right now. just picked up the a7 iv and the thought of salt spray or a gust of wind taking down my new setup gives me literal nightmares lol. i am so paranoid about gear failure when i am out on the coast, so i totally get the hesitation. honestly after doing a ton of research on reliability, i decided not to cut corners on the cards or the legs. for the tripod, if you want something that wont budge in the wind, check out the Benro Mach3 2 Series Carbon Fiber Tripod TMA28C. its super sturdy and way easier to clean if you get sand or salt in the joints compared to some of the thinner travel-style legs. for the filters, i really recommend the NiSi V7 100mm Filter System Kit with True Color CPL. the color accuracy is basically the best in the business and the build quality feels very premium. also, please dont risk those huge raw files on flimsy cards. i switched to the Sony TOUGH-G series SDXC UHS-II 128GB V90 cards. they are pretty expensive but they are literally waterproof and bend-proof, which is worth the peace of mind when you are hiking in rough conditions. definitely worth the investment for a new body like that!
