Looking for recommendations on the best all-around zoom lens for my new Sony a7 IV. Currently torn between the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II and the Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN II Art. Budget is around $2,000. Main uses will be event photography and portraits. Anyone have experience with both? Key factors for me are autofocus speed, image quality, and weight. Thanks for any insights!

- Jason is totally right! The results on my a7 IV have been fantastic! If you want the safest bet for event work where you cant afford to miss a shot, native glass is the only way to go. I love it!!
- definitely pick up the Sony FE 24-70mm f2.8 GM II for that insane autofocus speed
- buy a B+W 82mm Master Clear MRC Nano Filter to protect your investment from dust and scratches
- make sure to handle your own firmware updates via the Sony Creators App to keep everything stable Its just so much more reliable than third party stuff when things get chaotic. Youre gonna love the peace of mind you get with this setup tho!

I've shot with both lenses extensively on the a7 IV. The GM II is lighter (695g vs 735g) and has faster, more reliable AF tracking. While the Sigma produces gorgeous images and is $1000 cheaper, I find the GM II's AF performance invaluable for events, especially in low light. If budget allows, GM II is worth the premium for event work.
