I've just picked up a Sony a7CII and I'm now searching for a compatible external flash unit. I'm feeling a bit lost with all the choices available!
What flashes have you found work well with the a7CII, especially considering its compact size? I mainly shoot portraits and some indoor family events, so reliable TTL and ideally HSS are important features. Looking for a good balance between power, features, and portability. Any recommendations or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Quick reply while I have a sec... I totally agree with the others that the Sony native flashes have the best integration, but they definitely hurt the wallet. Since you're using an a7C II, you probably care about size too, and those big Sony units can feel a bit massive on such a small body. Honestly, for a more budget-friendly approach that still gives you HSS and TTL, I'd check out the Godox V350S Li-ion TTL Flash for Sony. I've had mine for ages and it's basically the perfect size for the C series. The best part for long-term use is the lithium battery - you wont have to keep buying or charging sets of AAs, which saves a lot of hassle and cash over time. If you need a bit more power for portraits, the Godox V1S Flash for Sony is another solid choice that's way cheaper than the Sony alternatives, tho it's a bit heavier. Tbh, the V350S is usually plenty for indoor family stuff and stays true to the compact setup.
I've been using the Sony HVL-F46RM with my a7CII for about 6 months now and couldn't be happier. Great TTL performance, reliable wireless functionality, and the recycle time is impressive. It's not the cheapest option, but it integrates perfectly with Sony's system and the build quality matches the camera.

Sony's own HVL-F60RM2 is pricey but worth it if you want seamless integration. All the TTL functions work flawlessly and you get that nice Sony menu integration. The modeling light is super helpful for portraits. That said, it's about $550 so definitely an investment.
