Looking to upgrade my TV specifically for PS5 gaming. Budget is around $1000-1500 but flexible for something truly worth it. Most important features for me are low input lag, 120Hz refresh rate, and good HDR performance.

Any PS5 owners with TV recommendations based on actual experience?

I totally agree that OLED is the king for picture quality but since youre looking at that 1000 to 1500 range you can actually save some serious cash and still get a top tier experience - honestly sometimes the extra features on the mid-range sets are more practical for a daily driver. If you arent 100 percent set on that LG here are a few other picks that are better for the wallet:

  • Sony Bravia 7 Mini LED
  • This is my favorite pick for PS5 owners because it has those Perfect for PS5 features that automatically calibrate the HDR settings and it gets insanely bright so if you have a window in your room you wont be staring at your own reflection all day.
  • Samsung S90D OLED
  • Well actually this is usually a bit cheaper than the LG equivalent and the colors pop more because of the QD-OLED tech which looks incredible in games like Horizon.
  • Hisense U8N
  • If you want to stay closer to the 1000 mark this is basically the value king right now and the 144Hz support is nice to have even if the PS5 caps at 120. Just make sure you grab some high quality HDMI 2.1 cables if they arent included because cheap ones will cause black screens when you try to run 120fps mode and trust me that is a total headache to troubleshoot later on.

^ This. Also, if youre looking for reliability and high brightness without the OLED price tag, Hisense has been solid lately. Their tech is basically matching the big brands for less cash. Heres two Id look at for that budget:

  • Hisense 55U8N Mini-LED 4K TV
  • Samsung S90D 55-inch QD-OLED Quick tip: Check the comparison tool on Rtings.com to see real-world peak brightness numbers. Marketing specs are often misleading. Also, keep an eye on which HDMI ports are actually 2.1... some TVs only have two, and one is usually the eARC port. Kind of a pain if you have multiple consoles or a soundbar setup.

Ngl I'm in the exact same spot right now. I've been gaming on Sony consoles since the PS2 days but picking a new TV in 2025 is honestly a nightmare with all the different tech out there. I really agree with what ScotstOdy said about the cost factor tho. It's so easy to get sucked into the OLED hype, but that price jump is no joke. I'm definitely looking for something that hits that 120Hz sweet spot without breaking the bank... the struggle is real trying to balance the specs vs the budget.

The LG C5 OLED is still my top pick for PS5 gaming. Got mine last month and the difference is night and day compared to my old LED. The 120Hz VRR support is buttery smooth, and having true 4K 120fps in games like Spider-Man 2 is incredible. Yes, it's pricier than LCD options, but if you game in a darker room, nothing beats those perfect blacks and instant response times.
