So I'm finally grabbing a PS5 next week after saving up for months and I am so hyped to finally try out the 3D audio everyone keeps talking about!! I've been doing some deep dives into what headset to get but honestly the more I read the more confused I get lol. I saw the official Pulse 3D one is built for it obviously but then half the reviews say it feels cheap and hurts your ears after a while. Then I see people swearing by the SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P but I cant tell if the actual 3D sound is any better or if people just like the brand more?

I'm looking for something that hits these points:

  • Budget is around $150 max cuz I already spent a ton on the console
  • Needs to be super comfy for 4-5 hour sessions (I have a big head lol)
  • Good mic for playing Helldivers 2 with my buddies
  • Really want that sound behind me feeling to actually work

Is the official one actually the best for the proprietary tech or should I go third party for better quality... I want to buy something by Friday so I'm ready to go the second the box arrives.

I grabbed the Sony Pulse 3D Wireless Headset thinking the official tech was mandatory, but unfortunately, it was a bust. It squeezed my head so hard I actually got a migraine during a Helldivers run and the mic was super muffled.

  • Tweak your 3D profile in PS5 settings
  • Avoid leatherette for 5-hour sessions I swapped to the SteelSeries+Arctis+Nova+7P+Wireless&linkCode=osi&tag=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7P Wireless and finally stopped getting those nasty headaches.

I've been using the 3D audio for a few months now and I'm super satisfied with how it handles positional sounds in games like Helldivers. It really makes a difference when you can hear stuff creeping up behind you. Since you're trying to keep it under that $150 mark after the big console purchase, I've got a couple questions to help narrow it down:

  • Do you have a preference between a wireless connection or a wired one that plugs straight into the DualSense?
  • Are you more focused on the mic clarity for your squad or is the spatial awareness for solo play your top priority? Going wired can usually save you a decent chunk of money and often helps with the weight if you have a larger head, since there are no batteries inside. It's a solid way to stay under budget while still getting that full immersion.
