Hey everyone! I'm struggling with a mess of cables on my desk right now. I still use my PS4 for some older titles while playing my PS5, but keeping all the controllers charged is a nightmare because I'm out of USB ports. I'm looking for some solid charging dock recommendations that can handle both DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers.

I'm specifically looking for:

  • Something with a small footprint
  • Reliable pins that won't break easily
  • A dock that won't overcharge the batteries

Should I look for a hybrid dock that fits both, or is it better to buy two separate official ones? What are you guys using for your setups?

Yo, I totally get the cable clutter struggle. If you are trying to save some cash but still want something that wont fry your controllers, I usually skip the official Sony ones. They are nice but definitely have that brand tax that isnt always worth it. For my DualSense, I have been using the PowerA Twin Charging Station for DualSense Wireless Controllers for over a year now. It is usually about ten bucks cheaper than the official one and it uses the click-down mechanism so you know it is actually charging. It also plugs into a wall outlet so you are not wasting your PS5 ports which is a huge plus given your situation. For the DS4, honestly, just grab a OIVO PS4 Controller Charger Dock Station. Those things are dirt cheap on Amazon and actually have a decent footprint. I like that they usually have little LED indicators to show when its done, which saves you from guessing. If you really want to save money, avoid those all-in-one hybrid towers. They are almost always made with cheap plastic and the pins for the DS4 are notorious for snapping if you dont line them up perfectly. It is way better to get two dedicated budget docks. You can usually find both for under 30 bucks total if you catch a sale. Just make sure whatever you buy has an actual AC adapter included, otherwise you are right back to square one with the USB port mess. Basically, stick to reliable third-party brands that have been around a while and you will save a ton without risking your gear.

Honestly, Ive been through a bunch of docks and the cable mess is real. I tried a cheap hybrid one a while back, but the pins felt flimsy and I always worried it might damage the batteries. I ended up going with two separate units and it is way more reliable imo.

Just catching up on this thread. Before I dive into the specs, are you looking to power these through the console usb ports or via a dedicated ac wall adapter? Also, regarding the desk space, do you prefer a vertical stacking style or a side by side layout? Knowing your preference for power delivery and footprint helps narrow down which charging ics are actually reliable for battery health.
