Recommended charging docks for DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers?

Hey everyone! I finally managed to grab a PS5, but I’m still keeping my PS4 hooked up for some backlog games. Right now, my desk is a total mess of USB cables trying to keep both my DualSense and DualShock 4 controllers charged. I’m looking for some solid charging dock recommendations that can handle both types, or perhaps two separate docks that look sleek side-by-side. I’m a bit worried about cheaper third-party brands potentially overcharging or damaging the batteries, so reliability is a huge plus for me. Does anyone have a specific setup they swear by that doesn't take up too much space? What’s the most reliable dock you’ve used for these controllers?

oh man, the struggle is real. i've actually been through a few of these and honestly... i learned the hard way that skimping on chargers is a bad move. i highkey ruined a ds4 battery with a cheap generic dock from amazon a few years back because it just wouldnt stop drawing power after it was full. super disappointing tbh. sooo if ur worried about battery health (which you should be!), i basically suggest staying away from those 'all-in-one' combo docks that claim to do both. they're usually cheap third-party stuff with questionable voltage regulation. unfortunately, there isn't really a single 'high-end' official dock that handles both ps4 and ps5 at once. i mean, they use completely different charging ports anyway. here's what i recommend for a sleek, safe setup: * Sony PlayStation 5 DualSense Charging Station: this is literally the gold standard. it uses the click-in ports at the bottom so you aren't wearing out the usb-c port. it’s methodical, sleek, and matches the console perfectly. * PowerA DualSense Charging Station: if you want a slightly cheaper alternative for ps5 that is still officially licensed and reliable. * Sony DualShock 4 Charging Station: if you can still find the official sony one, get it. it uses the bottom EXT port which is way more durable than the micro-usb on top. if not, the PowerA DualShock 4 Charging Station is the only third-party one i trust for the older gen. comparing them: official docks vs cheap ones... honestly, the official ones have proper communication with the controller to prevent overcharging. it's so much safer. plus, they look reallyyy clean side-by-side on a desk. i mean, it takes up two outlets, but for the peace of mind? totally worth it imo. gl with the cable management!!

Yo, I feel u on the cable mess. I've been juggling consoles for like 15 years and honestly... keeping things tidy is a struggle. Unfortunately, I've had issues with expensive "premium" docks failing right after the warranty ends, which is just sooo frustrating. Anyway, like the previous person mentioned, docks are definitely the move, but you don't have to spend a fortune to get reliability. Here's a solid budget-friendly setup I've used for a while:
* PowerA DualSense Charging Station for PlayStation 5 (usually around $25)
* PowerA DualShock 4 Charging Station for PlayStation 4 (can be found for $15-$20) These are both officially licensed, so they wont overcharge your batteries. They use the bottom pins instead of the top USB ports, which basically saves your controllers from wear and tear over time. Tbh, it's the best way to clear the clutter without breaking the bank. gl! 👍

honestly i spent way too much time obsessing over this stuff when i first got my ps5 setup. if you really care about reliability and not frying your batteries, your best bet is to just hit up youtube and search for something like dualshock 4 vs dualsense charging dock teardown or check the hardware threads on reddit. i remember seeing a really detailed video a while back where a guy actually measures the power draw on a bunch of different models... super eye opening tbh. basically just look for the top rated reviews on those tech sites because they go way deeper into the circuit protection stuff than most of us ever could. better to spend 5 mins searching than deal with a bloated battery later on.

^ This. Also, looking at what everyone else has mentioned, the consensus seems to be that those all-in-one cheapies are basically a gamble you dont want to take. I had a scary moment a while back with a generic stand that looked cool but started smelling like burnt toast after an hour. I realized the internal pins were slightly misaligned and it was shorting out. Ngl, it almost fried my favorite controller. If you're setting things up, be careful about:

  • docks that feel way too light or hollow
  • ports that make you wiggle the controller to get a connection
  • anything that doesn't have a clear full charge cutoff I actually stopped using docks entirely after that. My current setup is basically just a powered hub I tucked under the desk with some cable clips. It's a bit of a DIY fix but it feels way safer since I can see exactly what's being plugged in. You might want to consider just getting a solid hub and some quality cables instead of a dedicated dock... it's less tidy but way more reliable in the long run.

Exactly what I was thinking
