I need to know what accessories are actually worth getting for the Sony RX100 VII before I head to Japan next month because honestly the thing feels like a bar of wet soap in my hands. I just snagged a used one for my Tokyo trip in three weeks and my budget for extra stuff is pretty tight, like maybe 150 bucks max after spending so much on the body.
Right now I am torn between just getting the official Sony AGR2 grip or going full out with the SmallRig cage (the 2102 model I think?). The Sony grip is super cheap and keeps it small but I am worried it wont be enough grip if I am walking 20k steps a day and getting sweaty hands in the humidity. On the other hand, the SmallRig cage looks like it makes the camera way easier to hold and adds a cold shoe if I want to add a tiny mic later, but does it totally ruin the "pocketable" vibe? Like if I put it in a cage am I gonna need a separate bag for it? That kinda defeats the whole purpose of why I bought this tiny thing instead of a big Fuji or something.
Also I am looking at batteries because everyone says the life is trash. I am comparing:
The Wasabi ones are way cheaper but I have heard some horror stories about third party batteries swelling up and getting stuck inside the camera and I really dont want to brick my new toy while I am overseas. Is the peace of mind worth the extra 40 bucks for the Sony brand?
One last thing, do I actually need a screen protector? I see people swearing by the JJC tempered glass ones but then others say the Sony film is better for the touch screen sensitivity. I just want a setup that is reliable for street shots and wont break the bank or make the camera feel like a giant brick in my cargo shorts.
What would you guys prioritize?
I'm satisfied with the Sony AGR2 Attachment Grip for security. Stick with the Sony NP-BX1 Lithium-Ion Battery for reliability; avoiding swelling issues is vital when you're traveling.
