I am freaking out a little bit because I leave for my trip to Tokyo in like twelve days and I still havent figured out a grip situation for my RX100 VII. I love this camera but honestly it feels like a wet bar of soap and I am terrified I'm gonna drop it off a bridge or something while I'm sightseeing. I've been looking at the Gariz half cases because everyone says they look premium but they are kinda pricey and I'm not sure if that metal base actually helps with holding it or if it just makes it heavier. Then there is the TP Original leather case which looks like it has a bit more of a built-in grip on the front but its hard to tell from the photos on eBay if it really sticks out enough to make a difference for my fingers. My budget is strictly under $90 because the flight was so expensive. I also saw the Megagear ones on Amazon which are way cheaper but I dont want it to feel like plastic trash. I need something that actually makes the camera feel secure in one hand while I'm walking through crowded streets. Is the Gariz actually worth the extra money for the ergonomics or should I just go with the TP Original for the better finger hold? Which one of these actually stays in your hand better...

Ive been shooting with various RX100 models for years and tried several of these setups. If you want actual handling improvements and not just a fashion accessory, skip the Gariz. It looks premium but the grip is basically nonexistent... it is more about protecting the bottom than helping you hold the camera.

  • TP Original Sony RX100 VII Leather Camera Half Case: This is the one you want for ergonomics. It has a molded protrusion on the front that actually gives your fingers something to hook onto. It makes a massive difference when shooting one-handed. The leather is thick and feels more rugged than the others.
  • Gariz Design Sony RX100 VII Leather Half Case: The metal base is nice for tripod use but it adds weight without adding much grip. Its a decent option if you just want scratch protection, but for walking crowded streets, it wont feel much more secure than the naked camera.
  • MegaGear MG1727 Ever Ready Leather Camera Case: These are hit or miss. The leather feels thinner and a bit more like plastic compared to the TP. It works if you are on a strict budget, but it doesnt feel as solid in the hand. Honestly, the TP Original is the best middle ground. It stays in the hand better because of that front bump. Just double check the shipping speed since you are leaving so soon... 12 days is tight for some eBay sellers.

Re: "Building on the earlier suggestion, you should definitely..." - i actually went through this exact panic before my last trip. i ended up with the TP Original Sony RX100 VII Leather Case and was super satisfied with it. that front ridge is way more pronounced than it looks in photos, giving my fingers a real anchor point. it doesn't feel like cheap plastic and definitely kept me well under budget for my flight.

Building on the earlier suggestion, you should definitely check out the Kaza Deluxe Leather Camera Case for Sony RX100 VII. It has a fantastic, methodical design that includes a molded finger ridge... basically makes it impossible to drop! I love it because the leather provides way more friction than metal. Honestly, its a total lifesaver for one-handed street shots. TL;DR: Kaza has the best ergonomic bump for your budget.
