I'm absolutely loving my Sony ZV-1 for travel vlogging, but I need a more portable tripod. I want something lightweight that fits in a small bag but can still handle the camera's weight with a deadcat attached. Are there any sturdy, pocket-sized options you'd suggest that won't break the bank?

Curious about one thing: are you looking for a static desktop stand or something with flexible legs for vlogging on the move? Before I give full advice, I gotta know ur style! Honestly, the Ulanzi MT-08 Extension Pole Tripod is amazing at just $16. If you want more height tho, the SmallRig Selection Tabletop Tripod DT-02 is like $25 and super stable for the ZV-1! Let me know!!

Sooo, saw this earlier but just now responding... Not to disagree with the others, but I've actually had a scary experience with those super lightweight plastic poles. I once used a tiny budget stand while traveling, and a light gust of wind almost sent my ZV-1 face-first into concrete because the base was just too light for the camera weight with the deadcat on top. It was highkey terrifying! Honestly, if you want something pocket-sized but WAY more reliable, I'd suggest the SmallRig Tabletop Mini Tripod with Ball Head BUT2429. It is made of aluminum alloy, so it feels much safer than the plastic stuff mentioned earlier. Another solid pick is the Ulanzi MT-11 Flexible Tripod because you can wrap the legs around poles for extra safety. Basically, make sure to prioritize a metal construction or a really wide footprint. It might cost a few extra bucks, but saving 10 dollars isnt worth risking your whole kit... be careful out there! gl with the vlogs!

I have been looking at the tripod market for ages and you really get what you pay for when it comes to the ZV-1. One thing I gotta ask though - are you planning to use the cameras Bluetooth features or are you okay with just a manual stand? That basically determines if you should look at the generic market or the dedicated vlogging grips. In my experience doing market research for gear, there is a massive gap between the cheap plastic stuff and the pro-grade compacts. If youre looking for something that balances portability with actual build quality, here is how the brands usually stack up right now:

  • Sony GP-VPT2BT Shooting Grip with Wireless Remote
  • It is around 140 bucks but gives you zoom and record buttons right on the handle.
  • Sirui 3T-15 Table Top Tripod
  • High-end build for about 50 dollars, very stable.
  • Benro PP1 PocketPod
  • A great budget-friendly pick at nearly 20 dollars that holds more weight than it looks like it should. The Sony grip is obviously the choice if you want the best integration since its made for your camera, but it is pricey. If you want pure stability, the Sirui is pretty much the king of the compact world. It uses higher grade materials than those entry level brands mentioned earlier. Just make sure youre checking the weight limits because the ZV-1 is dense for its size!

Ok so, u gotta think about the center of gravity first... if legs are too narrow, a top-heavy Sony ZV-1 will highkey tip. In my experience, a wide base is basically essential for gear safety so you dont drop your kit. Here's what I recommend: * Manfrotto PIXI Mini Tripod - super sturdy and reliable
* Ulanzi MT-08 Desktop Tripod - tiny but stable I've used the Pixi for years and honestly, it works well. gl!

Honestly im not 100 percent sure if you are the handy type but have you considered a DIY approach instead of buying another professional tripod??? I think I remember seeing a hack where you can basically make your own ultra-portable base for the ZV-1 and it is realy easy to do if you have like ten minutes and some basic hardware.

  • Not sure but i think you can just use a heavy duty 1/4 inch bolt through a thick plastic coaster or a piece of scrap wood to create a perfectly flat pocket-sized base that wont ever tip over
  • Maybe look into making a DIY bean bag mount because you can travel with it empty and just fill it with sand or rice when you get to your vlogging spot so it weighs basically nothing in your bag
  • IIRC some people have even used a simple C-clamp from a hardware store with a bolt attached which lets you mount the camera to literally any table or railing you find while you are out and about It might look a little wierd compared to the shiny stuff from a shop but it is way cheaper and probably sturdier than most budget options anyway so you dont have to worry about the wind blowing it over or spending fifty bucks on plastic that just snaps in your bag!!! Just a thought if you want to save some cash and get exactly what you need for your kit.

Yep, this is the way

Like someone mentioned earlier, that center of gravity is a real killer with the ZV-1. I had a similar scare where my rig almost tipped over because the deadcat was catching the wind like a tiny sail... honestly it made me way more cautious about what I trust my gear on. If the legs have even a little bit of flex, the whole thing starts to wobble once you add any accessories. It works fine in a bedroom, but performance really drops when youre out in the elements. Im wondering tho, are you mostly filming on flat surfaces like tables, or do you need something that can handle rougher spots like dirt or rocks? Also, does it need to double as a handle for walking around, or is this strictly for stationary shots?
