Should I go with the basic Sony AG-R2 stick-on grip or get the full SmallRig L-bracket thing for my new RX100 VII? I am so hyped because I finally snagged a deal on a used one for my trip to Tokyo next month but man this thing is like a bar of soap lol. I'm torn because the Sony one is super cheap and keeps the camera tiny which is why I bought it in the first place but the SmallRig looks like it actually gives you something to hold onto. I have about 40 bucks left in my accessory budget and really dont want to make the camera too bulky for my jacket pocket. Is the SmallRig overkill or is the stick-on one just gonna peel off after a week of heavy use??
Definitely get the Sony AG-R2 Attachment Grip! It is super secure and wont peel off at all. SmallRig is overkill, the Sony grip keeps it safe and tiny. It is amazing!
The SmallRig LCS2438 L-Shape Grip is fantastic!
just saw this and had to chime in since i have spent way too much money over the years trying to fix the soap bar issue. honestly, when i was in osaka with my old mark v, the sheer weight of those metal brackets really killed the pocketability for me. i tried a thick extension plate but it felt like carrying a brick in my windbreaker. eventually a Gariz Leather Half Case for RX100 VII became my go-to since it was a solid middle ground. it adds maybe 9mm of height and weighs basically nothing compared to the 75g or more you get with aluminum rigs. in my experience, you dont actually need a massive handle... you just need a surface that isnt polished metal. my hand used to cramp up after an hour of street shooting but the leather texture fixed that. plus it didnt peel off in the humidity like the cheap adhesive ones sometimes do. just think about the weight distribution if you are walking all day, every gram counts when it is in a jacket pocket.
