Best hand grips for improving handling on Sony RX100 series?

So I finally treated myself and grabbed a used Sony RX100 VII for my big trip to Tokyo and Kyoto next month and man this thing is honestly tiny like way smaller than I expected which is awesome but also kind of a nightmare to hold. It feels like a literal bar of soap. Im so hyped to get out there and do some street photography but I am genuinely terrified I am gonna drop it the second I get off the plane or even just trying to pull it out of my pocket for a quick shot. There is just zero grip on the front it is so smooth.

I have been doing some deep dives into the forums and I am torn between a couple of very different options for making this thing more ergonomic. The first one is the standard Sony AG-R2 attachment which is just that little rubberized piece that sticks on with adhesive. It is super cheap like 15 bucks and it keeps the profile really slim which is the whole point of this camera right? But I am worried it wont be enough for my hands because I have somewhat long fingers and it doesnt look like it adds much.

On the other hand I was looking at the SmallRig cage or one of those baseplates with the built in wooden grip. Those look so much more comfortable and stable and like they would actually let me get a solid wrap around the camera but I am worried it turns the pocket camera into something I have to carry in a bag all day. I really want to be able to just slide it into a jacket pocket while I am walking around the shrines and stuff. I also saw some cheap generic L-brackets on Amazon but I heard they sometimes block the battery door which would be a total pain on a busy travel day.

My budget is around 50 or 60 bucks max since I already blew a ton of cash on the camera itself and some fast SD cards. I need to make a decision pretty fast because I leave in two weeks and want to have time to test it out before the flight. Do you think the simple stick-on grip is enough to stop it from slipping or should I just get the full SmallRig setup and deal with the extra weight for the sake of better handling?

Im so hyped to get out there and do some street photography but I am genuinely terrified I am gonna drop it the second I get off the plane or even just trying to pull it out of my pocket for a quick shot. Basically, you gotta be really careful with the full cages if you plan on using jacket pockets for street photography in Japan... honestly, it might turn your slim setup into a brick. If you want my advice, I would suggest looking at the UURig R017 Sony RX100 VII Extension Baseplate with Wooden Grip. It adds just enough depth for your fingers to wrap around without making the camera huge. Its way more secure than that little Sony sticker, but make sure to tighten the screw properly so it doesnt wiggle while youre walking around Shinjuku or somewhere busy. One thing people always forget is where your thumb goes. Since the back of the RX100 is so flat, your thumb just slides around. I highly recommend the Lensmate Sony RX100 VII Folding Thumb Grip. It slides into the hot shoe and gives you a literal hook for your thumb. It makes the bar of soap feel like a real tool. Just be aware that it might sit a bit high, so test it with your favorite jacket pocket before you head to the airport. Combining a baseplate with a thumb grip is the sweet spot imo. You get the ergonomic benefits of a big camera but it still disappears into a pocket. Definitely look for the folding version of the thumb grip tho, otherwise youll be struggling to hit the mode dial and itll just frustrate you.

Omg you are gonna love the VII in Japan! Honestly just grab the Sony Attachment Grip AG-R2 for RX100. Its super cheap and basically essential so you dont drop your new baby! I swear by it because it stays slim enough for pockets but gives you that extra bit of security. Definitely add a Peak Design Cuff Camera Wrist Strap too for total peace of mind while youre shooting in those busy Tokyo crowds!
