Best gimbal for Sony ZV-1 vlogging?

Hey everyone! I’m loving my Sony ZV-1 for vlogging, but the internal stabilization isn't quite smooth enough for my walking shots. I’m looking for a lightweight gimbal that won't block the flip-out screen or battery door. Has anyone tried the Crane M3 or DJI RS 3 Mini? What’s the best compact setup for travel?

yo, I totally feel u on the ZV-1 stabilization... it's literally non-existent for walking shots lol. Ive been using mine for travel for a while now and honestly, finding the right gimbal is a game changer. I guess the internal active mode is okay, but for *real* smooth cinematic stuff u definitely need more. For ur situation, here's my take:
* Zhiyun Crane M3: My favorite for the ZV-1. Super compact and doesn't block the flip screen!
* Zhiyun Crane M3S: Basically an upgraded version with better built-in lights and balancing.
* DJI RS 3 Mini: Highkey amazing, but maybe overkill for just a ZV-1 since it's built for heavier rigs. I'm actually super satisfied with the M3 setup. It fits in my bag easily and works well for long days. Plus, u can use a Ulanzi Falcam F38 Quick Release plate to help with that battery door access. gl!

Quick question - u using a cage or heavy glass? Honestly, DJI RS 3 Mini is technical overkill for the ZV-1. Feiyu SCORP-Mini 2 is way better for screen clearance and travel!!

Just a quick question tho, are you planning to do much vertical video for TikTok or Reels? It really changes how the flip screen clears the gimbal arms. That internal stabilization is basically useless for walking so I totally get the struggle. Here are a few decent options that havent come up yet:

  • Zhiyun Crane M2S is a solid little unit. It is lighter than the M3 and plenty strong enough for just the camera.
  • Hohem iSteady MT2 Kit is also worth a look. It comes with a magnetic AI tracker that works without an app, which is super handy for solo travel vlogs. From a DIY perspective, if you dont want to block the battery door, get a SmallRig L-Bracket for Sony ZV-1 2931. It shifts the mounting point so you can swap batteries and SD cards without taking the camera off the plate. Makes things way less annoying when you are out all day. Let me know about the vertical stuff so I can narrow it down.

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, going too big is a huge mistake for travel. But i gotta ask, are u planning on adding a cage or a heavy mic later? I've seen setups get totally ruined by just a tiny bit of extra weight and it's so frustrating... basically a waste of money. Also, whats ur actual budget?? Spending more doesnt always mean better vlogs tbh

Saved for later, ty!

I started out exactly where you are and it took me a minute to realize that the ZV-1 really shows every little step you take. I actually tried a few different cheap setups at first just to see if I could get away without spending much, but the performance was always hit or miss depending on how fast I walked. The biggest thing for me was realizing that some setups handle the up and down motion way better than others when you're moving. Are you planning on doing mostly fast-paced street vlogging or more slow, cinematic pans? Also, how much weight are you willing to carry around all day before it starts being a pain? Might help narrow down if you need something beefier or just a basic stick.
