What is the best compact external flash for the Sony ZV-1 that wont make the whole thing tip over? Im honestly so frustrated because I bought this camera for my small Etsy jewelry business but my basement apartment in Seattle has zero natural light and everything I shoot looks grainy and yellow. I need to get my new winter collection listed by this weekend and Im stuck.
Ive spent hours looking at options and I am just more confused now. I saw the Godox Lux Junior which looks really cool and small but then I found out it doesnt have TTL so I would have to set everything manually every single time I move a necklace and that sounds like a nightmare. Then I looked at the Sony HVL-F20M because its made by the same brand but the reviews are all over the place and people say the recycle time is so slow you basically have to wait ten seconds between every shot which just wont work for me.
My budget is strictly under $150 since I just spent a ton on a macro lens kit. The ZV-1 is so tiny that I'm worried a normal flash will just snap the hot shoe off or make it impossible to hold with one hand while I'm posing my displays. Is there anything actually reliable that balances well on such a small body or am I just looking for something that doesnt exist...

I actually had a similar nightmare trying to kit out my small Sony rig for a client shoot last year. Unfortunately, most compact flashes are either too weak or missing basic features like TTL. Testing that Sony HVL-F20M you mentioned was a total disappointment... waiting for it to recycle while I was trying to stay in the zone just drove me nuts. You should honestly just grab the Godox TT350S Mini Thinklite TTL Flash. Its basically the only real option under 150 bucks that wont make the ZV-1 feel like its gonna snap in half. It is light enough to balance well but still gives you full TTL. Quick tip: for jewelry, never shoot with the flash pointing forward. Bounce it off a white ceiling or a piece of foam board to kill those ugly reflections.

The Godox TT350S Mini TTL Speedlite for Sony is the most logical fit for your setup. It provides full TTL support for consistent exposure, meaning you wont need to adjust settings manually between every jewelry display. It weighs very little. It wont strain the ZV-1 hot shoe or cause it to tip. Recycle times are roughly 2 seconds with NiMH batteries, which is much faster than the Sony unit you mentioned. It handles the basics well for under 90 dollars.
