I am looking to add a gimbal to my a6400 kit for smoother video footage. I'm hoping to get some recommendations from those with experience using gimbals with the a6400.

I'll primarily be using the gimbal for travel vlogs, short films, and general video content. I'd appreciate any insights on specific gimbal models that have worked well for you with the Sony a6400.

just saw this thread and man... it reminds me of my buddys first attempt at vlogging. he went out and spent his entire savings on this setup for his a6400 and it was a total disaster.

  • he didnt realize that adding even a tiny microphone would throw the whole balance off and make the thing vibrate like crazy
  • he spent four hours in a parking lot trying to calibrate the motors while the sun was setting and missed the golden hour entirely
  • eventually he just got so frustrated he tried to force the arm and basically stripped the screws... it was a complete waste of money i would suggest you be really careful before pulling the trigger on anything. you might want to consider:
  • looking up payload calculators to make sure your specific lens combo doesnt stress the motors too much
  • checking out some of the beginner mistake videos on youtube so you dont repeat my friends nightmare
  • reading the actual manuals online first to see if the interface even makes sense to you really want to make sure you avoid that kind of mess... im around if you need help finding some good tutorial channels or resources for weight limits!

I've spent literally hundreds of hours lugging gear around for my travel channel and honestly... the right gimbal makes all the difference. When I first started with my a6400, I was using this massive setup that made my arms ache after twenty minutes. It was a total vibe killer! I eventually downsized to more compact gear and it completely changed how I film everything. Here are the ones I have actually used in the field that I love:

  • Zhiyun Crane M3 is what I use 90% of the time now. It is so tiny but handles the a6400 like a champ even with a decent lens. The motors are surprisingly strong!
  • Zhiyun Crane M2S is a fantastic budget pick if you want something even lighter for quick vlogging trips.
  • DJI RS 3 Mini if you think you might upgrade to heavier Sigma glass later on. The built-in light on the M3 is actually a total lifesaver for those dark restaurant shots during vlogs. Technical tip tho... just make sure you balance it perfectly every time or you'll burn out the motors faster than you think. Honestly, go for something light or you wont end up using it much because of the weight!

I think DJI RS 3 Mini is the best choice currently.
