So Ive been doing these long interview shoots lately and honestly the battery life on my a6400 is just killing me. Swapping batteries every 40 minutes is a total pain during a flow. Im looking to grab a grip before my next project in Seattle starts in two weeks. My budget is tight though, trying to stay under 60 bucks. Im basically torn between the Neewer one and the Meike grip. The Neewer looks okay but Ive heard the Meike build quality might be a bit better for bigger hands? Plus I really need that remote trigger thing to actually work. Which one do you guys think holds up better for daily use...

To add to the point above: Meike is definitely the winner for bigger hands, but I once used the Viltrox BG-A6300 Battery Grip and it was okay too. Just be careful with that fragile shutter cable tho. It dangles and always seems to snag on my gear. Honestly, since youre doing interviews, you might want to consider the Gonine NP-FW50 Dummy Battery AC Adapter instead. Much more reliable than fiddling with cheap remotes.

Adding my two cents... i have been really satisfied with the DSTE Pro Vertical Battery Grip for Sony A6000 A6300 A6400 for my a6400. It feels surprisingly solid for the price and the remote actually works without dropping the signal constantly. It has that extra bit of weight that makes the camera feel more like a tool and less like a toy. Heres a couple quick tips for reliability:

  • Look into the SmallRig 2263 Cage for Sony A6400 if you ever want to mount a big power bank instead of using a grip tray.
  • Check out the Sony Alpha Rumors forums for more user reviews on third-party reliability.
  • Use Wasabi Power NP-FW50 1300mAh Batteries inside the grip, they hold a charge way better than the generic ones that usually come in the box. Honestly, just making sure that tiny connector cable is taped down or secured with a small zip tie makes a world of difference for long interviews. Dont let that cable snagging ruin your flow while youre in Seattle.

Regarding what #1 said about the Meike MK-A6300 Pro Battery grip... I totally agree it feels way more solid. I tried the Mcoplus MCO-A6300 Vertical Battery Grip for Sony A6300 A6400 for some long interview sessions and it was okay, but felt a bit hollow. Be careful with the battery door tho, it feels kinda flimsy. I would suggest checking out the Vivitar VIV-PG-6300 Battery Grip for Sony A6300 too if you find it on sale.
