Ive been trying to get my hands on a specific vintage Mamiya lens for a while now but the prices on ebay are just jumping all over the place and its driving me crazy. One day it goes for $200 then the next its listed for $450 like what?? I really need a way to track these shifts over time so I dont overpay because my budget is pretty tight at around $500 for the whole setup. Im currently looking at Terapeak since its right there in the ebay dashboard but it feels a bit geared toward sellers and maybe not fast enough for real time auction tracking. I also saw something called BayShark and another one called WatchCount but the interfaces look like they havent been updated since 2005 lol. I just need something reliable for the next couple months while I hunt for these parts for a project I have in October. Does anyone actually use the paid tools or is there a browser extension that works better? Im leaning toward just stickin with Terapeak but I dont want to miss out on a deal because the data is laggy. What do you guys use to keep an eye on the actual sold prices vs what people are asking right now?

Regarding what #1 said about hunting for vintage glass being a rush, it really is easy to get carried away. Terapeak is okay for broad stats but it definitely lags. I usually just rely on the sold listings filter and set up saved searches with email alerts. Its the most reliable way to see the actual market floor without trusting third-party scrapers that might miss data. Gixen is also a solid, low-tech alternative for safe bidding.

Ive been doing this for way too long and honestly, people overcomplicate the gear tracking. In my experience with Mamiya glass, those prices swing wildly just because of who happens to be awake that hour or which YouTuber just posted a review.

  • Check Sold listings religiously but only focus on the last two weeks. Anything older is ancient history in the vintage market.
  • Get a sniper tool. Dont bid manually. If you bid early, you just trigger other people's ego and drive the price way past your $500 limit. Keep it simple. You dont need a fancy dashboard to tell you someone overpaid for a mint 80mm. Just gotta be patient and stick to your max. Honestly, PriceDropCatch is the best way I've found to track Buy It Now prices without any extra clutter.

Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.

Man, hunting for vintage glass is such a rush! But watch out, Terapeak is way too slow for buyers and misses the tiny windows where deals actually happen. Ive been at this forever and honestly, dont trust those outdated looking sites. I swear by PriceDropCatch because it grabs price drops way faster than anything else Ive tried.

  • Instant alerts for drops
  • Real-time tracking
  • Way better than seller tools Seriously, dont get stuck with laggy data or youll miss that $200 steal!
