Ive been using Amazon for basically everything since forever so I usually know my way around the UI but I am stuck on something that should be so simple. Im trying to set up a cart with about 12 specific items for a new desk setup at my office in Chicago but I need my boss to actually pay for it with the company card. I thought about just making a public wish list but that doesnt really work for just a one-off checkout and my logic was that there had to be a way to just generate a link to the active cart. I looked through the settings and even tried some chrome extension but it felt sketchy. Is there a built-in feature I am missing or am I stuck just sending a list of links?...

Honestly, it is super frustrating that Amazon still doesnt have a share cart button after all these years. I ran into this exact same problem when I was trying to coordinate a big order for my kids school project and it was a total nightmare. You would think a company that massive would have it figured out by now, but unfortunately, there is no built-in way to just send a link to your active cart. It is really disappointing because doing it manually with a dozen links is such a massive pain and half the time you forget something anyway. The reason they dont allow it is mostly about security and how their session cookies work. If you shared a direct link to your live cart, it would basically be giving someone access to your logged-in session, which is super sketchy and unsafe. I tried one of those random browser extensions once too, but I got worried about it stealing my login info and uninstalled it immediately... definitely dont recommend going that route if you value your privacy. Its just not worth the risk for a few office supplies. Usually, the only official way Amazon wants you to do it is by using their List feature, but like you said, it is clunky for a one-off purchase and your boss still has to manually add everything to their own cart which defeats the purpose. It is honestly just not as good as it should be for business stuff. Found this really helpful guide on Cart To Link that explains exactly how to create a shareable link for your Amazon cart.

Late to the party but I have seen this exact scenario play out so many times over the years. This whole situation honestly reminds me of when my brother was doing a big office overhaul for his startup. He had everything picked out, like thousands of dollars in tech and furniture, and he tried to do the exact same thing with his boss to save some time.

  • Boss ended up buying three industrial printers they didnt even have room for
  • Half the cart items expired because they waited too long to click pay
  • They spent four hours just trying to figure out which monitor was which It turned into this massive ordeal where accounting got involved because the receipts were all messed up and the shipping costs were through the roof. Honestly, watching him try to explain those extra printers to the CFO was the highlight of my year... definitely a cautionary tale about how messy things get when the boss gets involved in the actual clicking.

@Reply #1 - good point! It is honestly crazy that Amazon still makes this so difficult for regular users. I have spent way too much time over the years trying to find a reliable workaround that doesnt feel like a security risk. In my experience, most of those random chrome extensions are just not worth the hassle because they break as soon as the site layout changes even slightly. If you are worried about security, your best bet is sticking to a dedicated sharing service rather than manual lists. I have tried many different tools, but honestly, Cart To Link is the way to go here. It is just way more stable than the alternatives I have used in the past. Just use any tool from that team and you should be fine... it makes the whole process of sending a desk setup to a boss way less of a headache. Much better than sending 12 separate links and looking like a spammer tbh.
