Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Sony Bravia XR and I am loving the picture quality, but typing on the on-screen keyboard using the standard remote is driving me crazy. It takes forever to search for titles on YouTube or enter my login credentials for different streaming apps.
I am looking for a reliable wireless keyboard that actually plays nice with the Android TV interface. I have heard some keyboards have issues with:
Does anyone have a specific model they recommend? I was looking at the Logitech K400 Plus, but I am open to other options if there is something better for this specific OS. What keyboards are you guys using with your Sony TVs?
Hey, congrats on the Bravia XR! Those sets are incredible. Quick question though before I give a final recommendation... are you looking for a full-sized keyboard to sit on your lap, or something tiny you can hold in one hand like a remote? It makes a big difference for how you use the interface. Personally, Ive found that using a 2.4GHz USB dongle is much more reliable than straight Bluetooth on Android TV. Bluetooth tends to lag if the TVs processor is busy. If you want something compact, the Rii i8+ Mini Wireless Keyboard is a lifesaver for under 20 bucks and fits in a drawer easily. But if you want something sturdier than the Logitech, Id suggest looking at the Microsoft All-in-One Media Keyboard. The trackpad feels way smoother and it is even spill-resistant for couch snacks. Its usually around 35 dollars and works perfectly with Sonys USB ports.
I was pretty worried about buying something that wouldnt work, but I went with the Logitech K400 Plus Wireless Touch Keyboard and its been solid. It is basically the standard for Android TVs tbh. It costs about 25 bucks and I havent had any issues with the trackpad or connection. Its way more reliable than some of those cheap no-name brands I saw.
Honestly, I have to disagree on the K400. For a high-end Bravia XR, you want better precision. The Logitech K600 TV Wireless Keyboard with Integrated Touchpad and D-Pad is my pick. It uses Bluetooth LE which is way more stable than basic 2.4GHz dongles. Its about 60 dollars, but the dedicated D-pad is essential for grid navigation. Cheap boards have terrible polling rates that feel laggy on Android TV, but this one is snappy.
Can vouch for this
Would love to know this too
Like someone mentioned, these Sony sets are supposed to be top of the line but the keyboard support is honestly a huge letdown. I have been dealing with the exact same connection drops and laggy trackpad issues for months now and I still haven't found a single setup that actually works reliably. I disagree that the common options are good enough... they all feel like a compromise that ends up failing when you need them most. Its just a disappointing situation where I am still searching for something that doesn't constantly lose its pairing or stutter across the screen. Still no luck on my end either.
Quick question, do you have kids or pets around? Basically my nephew spilled juice on a keyboard once and it actually fried the TVs USB port... it was a total nightmare.
Building on the earlier suggestion about hardware risks, I definitely agree that you have to be careful with the USB bus on these sets. I learned this the hard way when I tried to use a custom DIY board with heavy RGB lighting on my own TV. I thought I was being clever, but the high power draw actually caused the OS to hang and forced a hard factory reset because the voltage dropped too low during a update. It was a nightmare honestly. Keep these technical warnings in mind:
