I saw the SU-WL850 but its like $250 which is crazy. Some say generic VESA is fine but then I hear about those weird spacers Sony uses and I'm worried a cheap Amazon one will fail and drop my 65 inch before my party Saturday.
My logic was sticking to the brand but is it really necessary?
I've used generic mounts on my Bravias for years and they're solid. You definitely dont need to spend $250, just make sure to use those spacers that came in your TV box.
Building on the earlier suggestion, I've noticed a lot of people really overthink the Sony-specific hardware requirements. The SU-WL850 is a slick piece of kit but honestly, its mostly about that ultra-flush look. In my experience, spending that much is total overkill unless you're a minimalist. I've hung hundreds of Bravias over the years and those weird spacers are just there to level the back out because the bottom section of the chassis is thicker than the top. I once did an install with a cheap $20 mount where the metal was so thin it actually flexed under a 65-inch load. Scared the hell out of me and I ended up swapping it out immediately. Now I stick to brands that actually publish their steel gauge and weight ratings properly.
Just saw this! Sony TVs use standard VESA patterns but those M6 bolts need to be the right depth. I totally swear by the Echogear Full Motion Articulating TV Wall Mount EGLF2 since its built like a tank and handles the weight perfectly! Just use the spacers that came with the TV and youll be golden. Its way better than overpaying for that Sony branded one!
Like someone mentioned, it's all about those M6 bolts. Im super satisfied with my mount, but just a quick warning... dont trust the screws that come in those budget kits. I've seen cheap bolts shear off while tightening. For your party Saturday, grab some high-quality steel bolts from the store to be safe. It's cheap insurance. TL;DR: Mounts are fine, but cheap bolts are the real danger.
