Hey everyone! I finally treated myself to a new Sony Bravia XR A80L and the picture quality is absolutely stunning. However, the out-of-the-box experience feels like it could use a little boost to really complete my home theater setup.

I am specifically looking for items that improve the daily experience. I have been considering a few things:

  • A backlit remote because the standard one is hard to see during movie nights.
  • A reliable external SSD for extra app storage since the internal space fills up fast.
  • A high-quality soundbar that syncs perfectly with Bravia Sync.

I want to make sure I am getting gear that actually works well within the Sony ecosystem. What are the top must-have accessories you would recommend for any Sony Smart TV?

Nice grab with the A80L. Since youre looking at the technical side, you really need to think about data throughput. For storage expansion, people often overspend on speed the TV cant actually use. I recommend the Crucial X8 1TB Portable SSD 1050MB/s because it hits that sweet spot of IOPS performance which helps apps launch way faster than a standard thumb drive. Also, if youre planning on gaming or using a high-bitrate player, dont cheap out on the cable. Grab a Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 Cable 6.5ft to ensure youre actually getting full FRL bandwidth for 4K/120Hz without signal drops. The A80L only has two HDMI 2.1 ports, so you want to maximize them. For resources, Id honestly head over to RTINGS for their calibration tables. If you want to get really nerdy, pick up the Spears & Munsil UHD HDR Benchmark 4K Blu-ray. It helps you calibrate the HDR tone mapping perfectly for your specific room lighting. Its a game changer for OLED owners.

Just saw this and honestly, you dont need to spend a fortune. For storage, I use the SanDisk Extreme PRO USB 3.2 Solid State Flash Drive 128GB because its way cheaper than a portable SSD but fast enough for any app. Also, if you want that theater vibe, get the Govee Envisual TV Backlight T2. It makes the colors pop and helps with eye strain since the OLED is so bright.

Congrats on the A80L! I went through the same thing with my Sony. Honestly, skip the cheap remotes and grab the Sony RMF-TX910U Backlit Remote. Its way better for movies. For storage, I use the Samsung T7 Shield 1TB Portable SSD. Its super fast for apps. Also, the Sony HT-A5000 5.1.2 Channel Dolby Atmos Soundbar is basically built for that TV and integrates perfectly with the menu.

Big if true

I've been messing with my A80L setup for a few months now and I'm honestly super happy with how everything talks to each other. For audio, I actually opted for the Sony HT-A7000 7.1.2 Channel Dolby Atmos Soundbar instead of the smaller models. The extra side beam tweeters really help widen the soundstage compared to the mid-tier units. If you aren't married to Sony audio, the Sonos Arc Soundbar is a beast too, tho you lose that seamless settings integration on the TV screen which is pretty convenient for tweaking things on the fly. For the storage side, I've been using the WD My Passport SSD 1TB and the random read speeds are high enough that apps feel like they are running on internal memory. No complaints there at all, it's been rock solid. One thing people usually forget is the Sony BRAVIA CAM CMU-BC1. It is not just for video calls; it actually tweaks the white balance and sound positioning based on where you're sitting in the room. It's a cool little tech boost if you want the absolute best out of that OLED panel. Just lmk if you need any help with the calibration settings later!
