I recently treated myself to a Sony Bravia XR specifically for my PS5 setup, and I'm blown away by the picture quality. Since these TVs have the 'Perfect for PlayStation' branding, I want to make sure I’m squeezing every bit of performance out of my gaming sessions. I’ve already got the console, but I’m curious about what else is essential. Are high-end HDMI 2.1 cables actually worth the upgrade for 4K/120Hz, or should I focus on a specific soundbar that supports eARC? I'm also looking at backlighting kits to reduce eye strain during long sessions. What are the absolute must-have accessories you’d recommend to really level up a Sony TV gaming experience?

So I've been setting up Sony rigs for over a decade now, and honestly, the Bravia XR is such a beast on its own that you don't need to overcomplicate things. To really nail the performance without burning a hole in your pocket, you gotta be smart about where the money goes.

First off, lets talk cables. There's a lot of marketing fluff out there. Basically, the cable that came in your PS5 box is already a certified Ultra High Speed cable. Unless you need a longer reach, dont waste your money on those $100 "boutique" cables—they wont make the pixels look any better. If you do need a spare or a longer run, I always tell people to grab the Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable 6.5ft. It is officially certified and basically costs a fraction of what the big-box stores charge for the same tech.

Now, for audio... eARC is non-negotiable if you want that uncompressed Dolby Atmos goodness. Instead of dropping two grand on a full theater system, the Sony HT-S2000 3.1ch Dolby Atmos Soundbar is a solid value play. It integrates perfectly with the Bravia XR interface so you can control settings directly through the TV menu. It's SO much more convenient than juggling remotes.

Lastly, for that eye strain, don't feel like you HAVE to buy the Philips Hue setup. It's great but requires a sync box that costs way too much. I've found the Govee Envisual TV Backlight T2 to be a way more cost-effective alternative. It uses a dual-camera system to match the colors on your screen and it literally makes the screen feel twice as big.

Focus on the audio and the bias lighting first—the TV is already doing the heavy lifting for the visuals! Enjoy the setup dude, it's gonna be amazing. 👍

Respectfully, I'd suggest a different approach:
- Skip cheap LEDs; they overheat ur ports.
- Use MediaLight Mk2 Series 1m Bias Lighting for safety and better accuracy tbh.

> I'm also looking at backlighting kits to reduce eye strain during long sessions. I actually went down a total rabbit hole trying to DIY my own cable routing and custom mounting for my Sony setup last year. It was a whole project but definitely helps with the immersion. Ngl, there are so many specific ways to do this. Honestly, just search for "Bravia XR PS5 accessory guide" on YouTube or Reddit. I saw a really solid video about it a few days ago that basically covers every possible add-on you could want. Its like the first result and saves a lot of time.

oh man, congrats on the Bravia XR!! I remember when i first got mine set up with the PS5... honestly, i was in the same boat wondering if i needed all the extra bells and whistles. In my experience, i actually went out and bought those super expensive 'ultra high speed' HDMI cables thinking it would make a massive difference for 4K/120Hz. tbh, the cable that came with the console worked just as well, but i guess having the fancy one made me feel more secure about the signal? lol. The real game changer for me was the audio though. I moved from a basic setup to one that actually uses the eARC port and the difference in sound clarity—and especially the lack of audio lag—was huge. I also grabbed one of those LED backlighting kits cuz my eyes were killing me during midnight sessions. It definitely helps with the strain and kinda makes the screen feel bigger too!! Anyway, basically just focus on the sound and lighting first... the cables are mostly just for peace of mind i think? good luck!

Yo! Stumbled upon this and honestly had to chime in cuz I'm sooo hyped for ur new setup!! The Bravia XR is seriously amazing!! Pro tip: you might find these resources useful for dialing everything in:

1. Check out **RTINGS**. They have this crazy detailed guide on HDMI 2.1 cables. I think... iirc they basically proved u dont need those $100 cables?? Just look for the "Ultra High Speed" certification. Actually, the one that came with ur PS5 is already 2.1, so ur probably good!!
2. There's a great resource at **HDTVTest** on YouTube. Not sure but I think his name is Vincent? He's a total expert. He has videos on the "Perfect for PS5" settings that honestly make the picture look even better.
3. For the lights, look up "bias lighting" on **Reddit's r/Bravia**. It lowkey helps with eye strain so much during those late-night sessions!!

Anyway yeah, dont overspend on the small stuff, ur TV is already the star!!

I totally agree with BOB2213 about being careful with what you plug into those ports. Ive had my Sony setup for almost three years now and honestly, keeping it simple was the best decision i ever made for the long haul. I was so worried about heat buildup early on that I actually avoided those cheap sticky lights altogether.

  • I went with a heavy duty surge protector instead of a basic power strip to keep the Bravia and PS5 safe from spikes.
  • Making sure there is plenty of breathing room behind the console has kept the fans quiet and cool for years.
  • Using proper cable ties to keep everything organized actually helped prevent the ports from getting loose or strained over time. Keeping it reliable and safe has made me really happy with the setup long term. No complaints at all so far... everything still works like it did on day one.
