I just dropped way too much money on a 75 inch Sony X90L and it's literally sitting in the middle of my living room floor right now because I'm too scared to even take it out of the box yet lol. I'm in Chicago and our apartment has really weird lighting so I've been stressing about glare and reflections. My budget is pretty much tapped out but I have maybe $200-300 left for essentials before my wife kills me. I've been reading a bunch of threads about what to buy first and honestly I'm just more confused now. Some people say you HAVE to get those expensive 48gbps HDMI cables if you want to use a PS5 but then other people say the ones that come with the console are totally fine and it's just a marketing scam? I also saw some stuff about Govee lights for the back of the TV to help with eye strain but I don't know if that actually works or if it's just for the vibes. Plus I'm worried about the sound since everyone says thin TVs sound like crap but I cant afford a full surround system right now. Is there like a specific starter kit of stuff I actually need to make this thing look and sound good or am I just overthinking everything? I really don't want to mess this up after saving for six months...

Dont waste money on HDMI cables. The PS5 one is already perfect. In my experience, expensive cables are mostly marketing fluff. To fix the glare and sound with your $300:

Get that thing out of the box already! The X90L is an amazing piece of tech with fantastic local dimming. Since you are worried about sound, you definitely need the Sony HT-S400 2.1ch Soundbar with Powerful Wireless Subwoofer. It uses S-Force Pro Front Surround which is fantastic for apartment living and integrates perfectly with your Sony menus. To handle glare, honestly just grab some blackout curtains. Most importantly, since it is a 75-inch monster, please get a Sanus PSTV1 Anti-Tip Strap. Safety is huge with these big screens because they are top-heavy and can tip easily! Also, grab some ScreenMom Screen Cleaner Kit to keep that panel pristine without damaging the delicate anti-reflective coating. You are gonna love it!

> Some people say you HAVE to get those expensive 48gbps HDMI cables @Reply #2 - good point! I totally agree that the stock cables are perfectly fine. Since you're nervous about that massive 75 inch screen, safety is the priority! You absolutely need a high-quality surge protector like the APC SurgeArrest Performance P11VNT3 to protect your investment from power spikes. Also, a sturdy mount like the Sanus VLT7 Advanced Tilt 4D is amazing for fixing glare issues by tilting the screen!

Late to the party but honestly its ridiculous how much of a headache buying a TV has become. I went through this exact same spiral with my last Bravia and it drives me crazy how these companies treat us like walking ATMs.

  • The whole cable industry is such a scam honestly, they use all this technical jargon just to scare you into overspending on stuff that doesnt even change the picture quality.
  • Its beyond frustrating that you can drop thousands on a screen and the speakers are still garbage. My old sets from ten years ago sounded way better than these thin panels today.
  • I spent way too much time scrolling through RTINGs and FlatpanelsHD just trying to figure out why my living room looked like a mirror. The reality is the anti-reflective tech is getting worse, not better, despite the rising prices.
  • Sony used to be the gold standard for out-of-box experience but now it feels like youre just paying for the name while they cheap out on the actual build quality compared to what other major brands are putting out for less. I really miss when you could just buy a TV and actually enjoy it without needing a second mortgage for accessories just to make it functional...

> Some people say you HAVE to get those expensive 48gbps HDMI cables if you want to use a PS5 Tbh after years of calibrating these sets, I can tell you the PS5 cable is perfectly fine for 4K/120Hz. People get tricked into buying $100 cables when something like the Zeskit Maya 8K 48Gbps Certified Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable 6.5ft does the exact same thing for way less. Its all about the bandwidth certification, not the brand name. Since you mentioned being worried about glare in a weirdly lit Chicago flat, I gotta ask... what is the main light source? Are we talking direct sunlight from a window behind your couch or just those harsh overhead lights? That makes a massive difference in whether a bias light will actually help your contrast levels. If you want better sound that wont break the bank, the Sony HT-S400 2.1ch Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer is a solid pick because it integrates with your TVs on-screen menus, so you wont need two remotes. Its much cleaner than the Vizio stuff for a Sony ecosystem setup.
