Hey everyone! I’ve really been stepping up my fitness game lately, transitioning from light cardio to some pretty intense HIIT sessions and heavy lifting. I’ve always been a huge fan of Sony’s sound signature, but I’m having a hard time deciding which of their current lineup is actually rugged enough for the gym.

I’m currently torn between the flagship WH-1000XM5 over-ears and the WF-1000XM5 earbuds. My biggest concern with the over-ear model is the sweat—I’m worried the earpads might get ruined or that they’ll start sliding off my head during burpees or bench presses. On the flip side, while the earbuds seem more portable, I need to know if they actually stay secure when things get really sweaty and high-impact. Noise cancellation is a must for me because my gym plays some seriously loud, distracting music, and I really need to stay in the zone. I’ve also looked at the LinkBuds S, but I’m not sure if the ANC is powerful enough to drown out the sound of clanking weights.

For those of you who hit the gym regularly with Sony gear, which specific model has survived your toughest workouts without slipping or suffering from moisture damage? I'd love to hear your experiences with fit and durability!

In my experience, dropping a ton of cash on flagships for HIIT is highkey risky. I've been using Sony gear for like 8 years now and honestly, the sweat eventually wins lol. For your situation, I'd look at the budget-friendly side of the lineup cuz they're basically more rugged for the grind and you wont feel as bad when they get salty. Option A: Sony WF-C700N Truly Wireless Noise Canceling In-Ear Headphones. These are the sweet spot! Usually around $99, they're super light and actually stay put during burpees. The ANC is decent enough to block out the gym music without breaking the bank. Option B: Sony LinkBuds S Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds. I know you mentioned these, but they're great value if you find a deal around $130. Way more stable than the XM5 buds imo. Option C: Sony WF-C500 Truly Wireless In-Ear Headphones. If you wanna go super cheap (like $60), these are tanks, though they lack ANC. Tbh, I'd grab the Sony WF-C700N Truly Wireless Noise Canceling In-Ear Headphones. They're cheap, they realy stay in, and they sound great. gl!

> My biggest concern with the over-ear model is the sweat—I’m worried the earpads might get ruined or that they’ll start sliding off my head... Before I give advice, quick question - do you usually find that foam or silicone tips stay in your ears better when you're moving around? I'm asking cuz it makes a HUGE difference for HIIT stability. Honestly, in my experience, I'd be super cautious with the over-ears. As already suggested, the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones aren't sweat-rated. Technical-wise, they have no IP rating, so salt from sweat can literally corrode the internals over time. Not a risk I'd take! Comparing your bud options:
- Sony WF-1000XM5: Best ANC to drown out that gym music, but the fit can be tricky during high-impact moves.
- Sony LinkBuds S: Way lighter, so they basically never budge, tho the noise canceling isn't quite as "dead silent." Moisture damage is a real thing, so I'd highkey lean towards the buds. Let me know about your fit preference! peace

In my experience, you definitely wanna steer clear of the over-ears for HIIT. I've been using Sony gear at the gym for like 6 years now, and trust me, over-ears and burpees just dont mix. Here's what I recommend:
• Skip the Sony WH-1000XM5 Wireless Noise Canceling Headphones. They aren't sweat-resistant and they'll slide right off your head during bench presses. Plus, the earpads get NASTY after a few heavy sessions.
• Go with the Sony WF-1000XM5 Truly Wireless Noise Canceling Earbuds. They're IPX4 rated so sweat wont kill 'em, and the foam tips are lowkey the best for staying secure during high-impact moves.
• The Sony LinkBuds S Noise Canceling Earbuds are super light, but the ANC won't drown out clanking weights as well as the flagship buds. Tbh, the flagship buds are the only way to go if you want elite silence. GL!

Omg I am literally struggling with this exact same thing right now!! It is so frustrating because I love the Sony sound signature so much but I am terrified of ruining a pair of expensive cans with my gross gym sweat... been dealing with this dilemma for like three months and I still havent pulled the trigger on anything. I tried some Beats Studio Pro thinking they might be more fitness oriented but the fit just wasnt doing it for me compared to what I am used to. Honestly tho, my gym just changed their lighting to this weird neon blue vibe and it makes me feel like I am in a Tron movie or something during my cardio sessions. It is super distracting but also kinda cool? I spent like ten minutes just staring at the reflection today instead of actually running. But yeah, still no closer to figuring out the headphone situation... the struggle is so real!
