Which Sony headphones are actually gonna keep me sane on a 14-hour flight to Tokyo next month? I've been looking at the XM4s and the newer XM5s and honestly I'm stuck because the reviews are all over the place. Some people say the XM4s are better for traveling because they fold up small and the hinges are sturdier but then other people swear the noise canceling on the XM5 is way ahead for engine drone.

My budget is around $350 and I'm really worried about comfort because my ears get super hot after a couple hours and I have a pretty big head lol. The XM5 design looks a bit flimsy to me but maybe it's fine in a carry-on? I just need something that blocks out crying babies and that constant humming sound for the whole trip...

I have logged hundreds of flight hours with both! For a 14-hour haul, here is my direct comparison:

Just saw this. If you're worried about heat and head size, over-ears are gonna be a struggle for 14 hours. I switched to Sony LinkBuds S Noise Canceling Earbuds last year and never looked back. They're way cheaper than the flagship models, usually under $160, and you wont get that swamp ear feeling halfway through. ANC is surprisingly good at killing engine hum too. Just my two cents after years of flying...

My ears got roasted on a flight to Japan. Watch out for:

  • low breathability
  • heavy builds High clamping force is basically a headache tho. Check out in-ear options if you run hot.
