According to rumors, Sony is expected to announce a new cinema camera called Sony FX2. So is FX2 the replacement of Sony FX3 or replacement of a7S III?
Saw this earlier but just now responding... before giving any hard advice, I gotta ask: what kind of projects are you actually shooting? Knowing if you're doing narrative work or fast-paced event coverage makes a huge difference in whether a potential FX2 would even be relevant for you. I would suggest being very careful about waiting for gear that hasn't been officially announced. It can really stall your production schedule. Procurement planning based on leaks is a recipe for headaches.
I've been dealing with this exact same issue for months and its honestly so frustrating. I'm usually satisfied with my technical documentation process but the total lack of data here is making it impossible to ensure long term reliability for my workflow.
Honestly I think it's gonna be a lower-tier option rather than a replacement for those pro bodies. Just found this thread and I've been wondering the same thing because the Sony a7S III is way too expensive for me lol!!! If you're looking for the best value, here's what I've noticed from a beginner perspective: - The FX2 will probably be an entry-level cinema camera, maybe even a bit cheaper than the Sony FX30 which is already a great deal.
- If you need full frame now on a budget, the Sony ZV-E1 is basically a cheaper version of the Sony a7S III anyway and you can find it for around $2,198.
- Sony usually adds to their lineup rather than just replacing everything, so this might just be a way for them to hit a $1,500 price point for hobbyists. So yeah, probably not a replacement, just a cheaper sibling! Do you think it'll actually have 4K 120p or is that too much to ask for a budget cam???
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
It will not replace FX3.
