So I just upgraded to the a7R VI and honestly the resolution is insane but my old third-party flash is acting all glitchy with the new autofocus system. I'm trying to decide what to get before a big corporate gala I'm shooting here in Chicago next month. I've got about $500 to spend maybe a bit more if it's really worth it but I'm torn between staying native or going with Godox because everyone talks about their ecosystem.
Here is what I'm looking at:
The thing is I do a lot of fast-paced event work and I'm worried the Godox might miss a beat with the Sony's specific TTL stuff or the face detection. But then again the Sony flash is like $550 which is a lot of money for a single light. I'm also planning on adding more off-camera lights later this year so the whole system thing really matters to me. Does the Sony brand really justify that price jump for the a7R VI specifically or is the Godox V1S gonna be good enough for high-end professional work?
Re: Honestly, you absolutely need to go with the... I agree the Sony is peak reliability, but I've been very satisfied with the Godox V1S Round Head Flash for gala events. It works well and saves a lot of money.
Unfortunately, I had issues with Godox TTL at a recent event, it was not as good as expected. Try this budget native option:
Honestly, you absolutely need to go with the Sony HVL-F60RM2 Wireless Radio Flash for this camera! I used to run Godox for events, but the TTL communication on the a7R VI is incredibly complex and third-party options just miss exposure sometimes. The Sony flash integrates flawlessly with the face detection, giving you total reliability when shooting fast-paced galas! It is worth every single penny for that peace of mind!
