Ive been shooting weddings with a full rig for years but just swapped to the a7C II for a personal project in Kyoto. My old RS3 is just too much to carry. Looking for something tiny that can actually handle the balance without the motors freaking out. Anyone tried the Crane M3S or should I just stick to DJI?
I've used the DJI RS 3 Mini 2kg Payload Capacity with that body and it crushed it. The Zhiyun Crane M3S 3-Axis Gimbal motors struggle with torque when you're using heavy glass tho.
For Kyoto, you might want to consider the Zhiyun Weebill 3S Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer if you need more stability. It costs more than the ultra-compact ones, but it handles that body better without motor jitters. I would suggest avoiding the Hohem iSteady MT2 4-in-1 Camera Gimbal unless youre strictly on a budget... it feels kinda flimsy. Be careful with heavy lenses tho, theyll still mess up your balance on small rigs.
To add to the point above: you might want to consider how lens changes affect everything. I used a smaller setup for a travel project recently and found that even a slight shift made the motors vibrate. Be careful when using heavier glass on those tiny setups; I learned to double-check my balance every time. Make sure to monitor the motor heat tho... mine got pretty warm because I dont always get the balance perfect.
