Just saw this and I am curious, are you planning to trade in a mirrorless body or an older cinema camera to get that max $800 credit? Knowing what gear you are offloading would help gauge if the math actually works out in your favor compared to the used market prices. The current hardware in the Sony FX3 Full-Frame Cinema Camera is still performing really well for most mid-range productions. From a technical perspective, these are the main reasons the current deal might be worth it:

  • Internal cooling on the FX3 allows for unlimited 4K recording without the thermal issues seen in the A7S III.
  • The Sony FX6 Cinema Line Camera gives you built-in electronic ND filters which are basically a lifesaver on location.
  • Firmware updates have added features like anamorphic de-squeeze and breathing compensation recently. Honestly, even if a mark II comes out eventually, these bodies are solid workhorses for a while yet. Just gotta make sure the trade-in value is actually competitive tho.

So when is the release date for mark II versions ?
