I recently purchased a Sony a7C II mirrorless camera and am looking for advice on the best lenses to pair with it for all-around use. I mostly shoot landscapes, cityscapes, and portraits.
From my research, it seems like the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is an excellent and versatile zoom lens that would cover a lot of bases. I've also heard great things about the Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 for portraits with beautiful bokeh.
For landscapes, would a wide angle lens like the Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II be the way to go? Or would a prime like the Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G be sharper?
I'm open to both zoom and prime lens suggestions. My budget is flexible but I'd like to get the best bang for the buck. Factors I value are image quality, fast aperture, and autofocus performance.
Those of you shooting with the a7C II, what lenses have you been most impressed with? What are your go-to lenses for the types of photography I mentioned?
Thanks in advance for your advice and lens recommendations! Looking forward to seeing some sample images as well.
Which is better? FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G or FE 16-35mm f/4 G PZ ?
@pinebaby Unless you absolutely need f/2.8, I'd recommend the 16-35 f/4 PZ. I shoot a lot in the 16-35mm range on my Sony A7 IV and the power zoom and smaller size of the f/4 lens are game changers for me. I value the versatility more than the speed of the GM. The image quality is still excellent and more than enough for my needs. And I love being able to zoom smoothly when shooting video.
Rumors Sony will release 28mm pancake lens. Should be a good lens for travel.
The 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II is a fantastic all-around choice. For landscapes, consider the 16-35mm f/2.8 GM II for versatility or the 20mm f/1.8 G for sharpness and value. The 85mm f/1.8 is indeed excellent for portraits. Check online reviews for sample images and comparisons!
