Recommended external monitors for a Sony FX3 professional video rig?

Finally finished building out my FX3 rig but the onboard screen is just killing me when I'm shooting outdoors here in Austin. Its too small and way too dim for midday music video shoots. I’ve been looking at the Ninja V since everyone seems to have one but then I saw people complaining about the fan noise and the weight adding up. I also checked out the Portkeys LH5P II because of the camera control stuff which sounds cool but I'm worried about the UI being clunky compared to Atomos.

My main needs are:

  • super high brightness for sun
  • under $700 if possible
  • doesnt drain my v-mount too fast
  • reliable hdmi connection

Should I just stick with the industry standard Ninja or is there something better for a compact FX3 setup?

I've been very satisfied with the FeelWorld LUT7 7 Inch 2200nit Monitor because it works well for cheap. No complaints about reliability yet, it's really helped my budget.

The SmallHD Action 5 5-inch 2000-nit HDMI Monitor is fantastic for midday shoots! You get 2000 nits of brightness and the incredible PageOS software without the Ninja V fan noise or weight.

I used to run those Atomos monitors on my FX3 but the heat down here literally killed two of them during outdoor shoots, and the fans were so loud. Unfortunately, the budget options are just not as good as expected for midday sun. Honestly, just get any high-brightness monitor from SmallHD. Their software is way better anyway. TL;DR: Skip the cheap brands and go with a bright SmallHD.
