Just got the a7CR for a wedding shoot I have in two weeks and my current V1 looks absolutely ridiculous on it and totally defeats the purpose of the compact setup. So I was thinking maybe:
But my logic was that I still need decent recycle times for candids and I'm worried the F20M is gonna be too slow. Budget is around 200 bucks. I'm stuck because I want that slim profile but I dont want to lose too much power or deal with AAA batteries if I can help it. Does anyone have a setup that doesnt feel top heavy?...
> I want that slim profile but I dont want to lose too much power or deal with AAA batteries if I can help it. I have tried many flash setups over the years and found that for a wedding, the recycle time is usually the biggest deal breaker. In my experience, you should definitely look at the Godox V350S Li-ion TTL Flash for Sony instead of the ones you listed.
Adding my two cents since I moved to the compact bodies last year. Ive been very satisfied with the Godox V350S Li-ion TTL Flash for Sony for event work. It solves your AAA battery concern and recycles much faster than the standard version.
> I want that slim profile but I dont want to lose too much power or deal with AAA batteries if I can help it. Omg I totally feel your pain on this!! I was so worried about my a7C II tipping over with a big flash that I spent weeks researching this. I actually started with the TT350S but honestly, the AAA batteries made me so nervous during a long day... I was constantly checking the levels and it just felt unreliable for a big event. I kept thinking the recycle time was gonna fail me right when everyone was dancing!! You should really look at the Godox V350S Li-ion Battery Mini Camera Flash. It is a total game changer!! It is basically the exact same size as the one you mentioned but it uses a dedicated lithium battery pack instead. The recycle time is way faster - around 1.7 seconds at full power - and you dont have to carry around boxes of AAs. I used it for a backyard party recently and it never missed a beat. It felt so light and balanced on the compact body! If you want to stay within the brand, the Sony HVL-F28RM Compact External Flash is also fantastic and super rugged. I love how it feels built like a tank even though it is tiny. It does use AAs which is a bummer, but the build quality makes me feel much safer using it in crowded spots where people might bump into me. It is usually right around $200 too! Honestly, going with the V350S saved my sanity. It fits the slim profile of the C series cameras perfectly and doesnt feel top heavy at all even after hours of shooting. You are gonna love how it feels compared to that massive V1!
