Has anyone heard rumors about potential price drops for the Sony a9 III? I've been eyeing this camera for months but the current price tag is steep. Might Sony reduce pricing to stay competitive? TIA.

tbh I agree that tracking those sites is the move, but you gotta look at what the other brands are doing to see where the price might actually go. Sony basically has the market cornered with that global shutter tech right now, so they dont have much reason to drop the price yet unless Nikon or Canon releases a direct competitor. Heres how it looks from a market perspective compared to others: 1. Nikon Z9 - Nikon has been pretty aggressive with their pricing lately, and while it doesnt have a global shutter, it handles rolling shutter so well that it puts pressure on the a9 line. 2. Canon EOS R3 - This one often gets some decent rebates or body-only deals that might force Sonys hand eventually, though the tech isnt exactly the same.
3. Sony a1 - Historically, Sony flagship prices stay pretty static until a Mark II version is announced. idk if we will see a massive drop soon because the global shutter is such a unique selling point. Basically, Sony knows people will pay the premium for that specific tech. If you arent tied to Sony, looking at the Nikon ecosystem might be cheaper, but if you need that specific sensor, you might be waiting a while.

Late to the party but I've been following the thread. Basically, people are saying track the prices or wait for a big sale like Prime Day, while keeping an eye on the competition. Honestly though, I gotta warn you about something. If you see a price that looks way too low on some random site, just run. Ngl, those grey market deals are tempting when you're looking at a huge investment like this, but you basically lose your warranty and support. I always say it is better to pay a bit more at a local authorized shop where you can actually test the unit first. If you really wanna save, look for open-box deals at legit retailers instead of risking it with sketchy importers. Safety first with gear this expensive... dont let a cheap price tag blind you to the risks.
