Looking for a high-quality mic for Sony a7C II for shooting video ?
I would choose the DJI Mic 2. This is one of the best wireless mics currently.
@blackgirl Thanks for suggestion, I bought it last week, the audio is great and it is really compact and easy to use.
Another mic to consider is the Sennheiser MKE 400. I've used it on my a7CII and have been impressed:
If you think DJI MIC 2 is expensive, get the Rode Wireless Go II: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=Rode+Microphones+Wireless+Channel+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50
Actually i was just thinking about this after messing with my setup earlier. One thing to watch out for with the a7c ii is how the mic sits relative to that flip-out screen because its such a small body. Things get crowded fast when you start plugging stuff in. I am not 100 percent sure but i think i heard:
Did this last week, worked perfectly
honestly just curious before I weigh in on what I'm using, what's your actual budget for this? Are you mostly doing talking head stuff indoors or are you out in the wind doing vlogs? I've been super satisfied with my setup lately because it just works well without me having to fiddle with settings too much. Performance has been solid for my basic needs and I have no complaints so far. Actually, the main reason I got the a7C II was because it fits so well in my smaller sling bag. I took it on a hike last weekend and barely even felt the weight. Its crazy how much better the autofocus is compared to my old gear... I spent more time looking at birds than actually checking my focus lol. anyway, just let us know what you're planning to shoot specifically. but yeah.
The Sony a7CII has a 3.5mm microphone input, so most standard microphones will work. Here are a few good options to consider:
Rode VideoMic Pro+: This is a high-quality on-camera shotgun mic that provides excellent audio in a compact form factor. It has a Rycote Lyre shock mount for minimizing handling noise. Runs on AA batteries.
Sennheiser MKE 400: Another great on-camera shotgun mic option. It has a super-cardioid pickup pattern to focus audio capture in front of the camera. Powered by AAA battery. Includes windscreen.
Zoom H1n Handy Recorder: While not a mic itself, this allows you to record high-quality audio separately and sync in post. It has built-in stereo mics that capture great sound. Provides more flexibility than an on-camera mic.
Consider your budget and recording needs, but any of these will allow you to capture far better audio than the a7CII's built-in microphones. Let me know if you have any other questions!
DJI MIC 2
Waiting for upcoming DJI Mic Mini.
@temmer Already released: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=DJI+Ultralight+Detail+Rich+Cancelling+Microphone&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50
Consider the Shure VP83F LensHopper. It's a high-end shotgun mic with a built-in flash recorder, allowing you to record audio separately from the camera. This can be a lifesaver in post-production. The sound quality is top-notch, and it's built to last. It's overkill for casual use, but perfect if you're serious about audio.
Been using the Rode VideoMic Pro+ with my a7CII for the past 6 months. Great directional audio and the auto on/off feature syncs perfectly with the camera. Battery life is solid too. Only downside is it's a bit pricey around $300.
