I recently purchased a Sony FX3 camera for shooting video and I'm looking to pair it with a high-quality gimbal for stable footage. The FX3 is fairly compact at 1.1 lbs (500g) so I'm hoping to find a lightweight gimbal that balances well with it.

Since DJI RS 4 and RS 4 Pro have been released, now the best choice are RS4 and RS4 Pro. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=dji+rs+4&BI=8941&KBID=10361&SID=12345&DFF=d50

@6777777 As a former Ronin S user, I can confidently say that upgrading to the RS4 was one of the best decisions I've made. The difference in performance is nothing short of remarkable. The RS4 operates with a level of smoothness and fluidity that the Ronin S simply can't match. Additionally, the reduced weight of the RS4 makes it far more comfortable to carry around for extended periods. I've genuinely fallen in love with this gimbal, and I no longer dread the thought of bringing it with me on shoots. The RS4 is a true game-changer.

DJI RS 4 Mini is the best choice.

For lightweight gimbal, you may also try the DJI RS 3 Mini

Analyzing the torque specs and motor efficiency for the Sony FX3 reveals two fantastic options that often get overlooked! Both of these provide incredible stability and specialized features.

  • Zhiyun Weebill 3S Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer: This unit is amazing because of the Sling Mode 2.5 ergonomics and its 6.5kg payload capacity. The built-in fill light has a CRI of 90, which is fantastic for quick B-roll when lighting is kinda tricky.
  • Feiyu Scorp-C 3-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer: Honestly, love the structural design here. It supports up to 5.5 lbs and has a very unique integrated handle that makes low-angle shots effortless. The 13-hour battery life is also a massive plus for long production days. The motor response times on the Zhiyun Weebill 3S Handheld Gimbal Stabilizer are particularly impressive when youre moving fast. Both are solid contenders if you want something different than the usual DJI picks...

stumbled upon this discussion and ngl, ive been pretty bummed out by the current gimbal landscape lately. i actually went down a rabbit hole trying to build a custom diy counterweight setup for my fx3 because i had issues with almost every electronic stabilizer i tried. honestly, most of them felt way more clunky than advertised and the motor noise was a total nightmare when i was trying to grab clean audio. it was super disappointing to spend that much and still feel like i was fighting the gear. a couple things i gotta ask though before you pull the trigger:

  • are you planning to run a heavy cage and v-mount battery or just keep it super stripped back?
  • what kind of lenses are we talking about here... like heavy zooms or just small primes? the weight of the camera is one thing, but how you balance the whole rig makes a massive difference in whether the motors will actually hold up.

DJI is gonna be the best build quality for your money. And also ZHIYUN gimbals are another good choices.

Bought a used DJI RS 3 Pro for my FX3, works well and really love it.
