so i finally got my a7r vi for my big japan trip next month and im so scared of scratching it!! i looked at amazon and saw glass ones and film ones but my logic was that glass might crack? or maybe it messes up the touch screen? i only have like 20 bucks left after buying the lens lol so what should i get?
Man, youre gonna love the a7R VI in Japan!! Such a dream camera for a trip like that. I totally get the nerves tho. I remember when I first got my kit, I was so paranoid I wouldnt even take it out of the bag without a protector. I actually dropped mine once while switching lenses near a stone fountain... literal heart attack moment!! The glass protector I had on cracked into a million pieces but the actual screen didnt have a single mark. Lifesaver! Since youre tight on cash after that lens purchase (been there lol), honestly just grab the ULBTER Sony a7R VI Tempered Glass Screen Protector 9H Hardness 0.3mm. You usually get a 3-pack for like 10 bucks. They are amazing because they're super thin so the touch screen sensitivity stays perfect. The only real con is they can be a bit reflective in bright sunlight, but for the price they are unbeatable and way better than flimsy film. If you can squeeze a few more dollars, the Sony PCK-LG2 Screen Protect Glass Sheet for Alpha Mirrorless Cameras is the official one. Its way more durable and the coating is fantastic for reducing fingerprints, which is huge if you use the touch focus a lot. It fits the bezel perfectly too and feels more premium. TL;DR: Grab the ULBTER Sony a7R VI Tempered Glass Screen Protector 9H Hardness 0.3mm for your trip! Its cheap, gives you spares if you mess up the first try, and glass is way better than film for real impact protection.
Just saw this thread and felt the need to chime in. Honestly, I had such a bad time with those cheap film protectors I bought for my last gear setup. I was so disappointed because they started peeling off within two days of humid weather during my last hike. I thought I was being smart saving money, but it was just a waste of ten bucks.
> i looked at amazon and saw glass ones and film ones but my logic was that glass might crack? I had issues with those thin plastic films unfortunately, they scratch way too easily and just look cheap. Honestly not as good as expected for a high end camera like that. You should definitely go with a glass protector from Sony or maybe something from Expert Shield... they feel way more premium. Glass actually saves your screen if you drop it, so its worth the extra bucks.
