Building on the earlier suggestion, i remember when i first got my hands on some heavy high-end glass for my Sony Alpha 7R IV. i was so satisfied with the technical specs and how it works well with that 61MP sensor. No complaints about the sharpness, it was basically perfect. But honestly, the honeymoon phase ended when i realized how much i paid per gram of weight i had to carry. I learned that for my workflow, the absolute peak of optical perfection wasnt always worth the massive price tag or the missed shots while hunting for focus manually. These days im much happier with a more balanced kit. The engineering on lenses like the Zeiss Otus 50mm f/1.4 ZE is definitely beautiful, but i found that being a bit more cost-conscious actually helped me buy tools i use way more often than a heavy lens that stays in the bag... just my experience after chasing the dragon of perfect glass for a few years.

honestly id be really careful about pre-ordering these right away. i've learned the hard way that jumping into expensive gear without seeing real tests is a mistake.

  • make sure you're ready for manual focus because at f1.4 it's incredibly easy to miss the focus
  • i would suggest checking the weight specs since this glass is usually massive and might be a pain to carry
  • be careful about the price point because you might want to consider if the lack of autofocus is worth it for your setup just my two cents but i'd wait for the reviews to drop first...

Caught this news this morning and honestly... its a bit disappointing to see more Otus glass for E-mount. I had issues with the sheer bulk of these on mirrorless bodies before and they were unfortunately not as good as expected for the price.

  • From a technical standpoint, hitting focus at f/1.4 manually on high-res sensors is just asking for frustration.
  • The size to performance ratio is kinda outdated now that native mirrorless designs have caught up. What kind of stuff are you actually shooting though? It would help to know your workflow before you drop that kind of cash. If you're looking for better value, honestly just go with any of the newer Sony native lenses. You really cant go wrong with their glass these days. Or even just grab any of the high-end options from Sigma instead.
