I'm looking to expand my lens collection without breaking the bank. As a hobbyist photographer, I'm in search of the best budget-friendly lenses for my Sony mirrorless camera. I'm open to both prime and zoom options, but I'm particularly interested in versatile focal lengths for everyday shooting.
What are your top recommendations for affordable Sony lenses that offer good image quality and value for money?

As a fellow Sony shooter on a budget, I highly recommend the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8. It's a fantastic prime lens that's perfect for everyday shooting. The wide aperture is great for low-light situations and creating beautiful bokeh. At around $200-250, it's one of the most affordable Sony lenses out there, and the image quality is surprisingly good for the price. It's my go-to lens for street photography and portraits.

Like someone mentioned, Samyang can be a decent shout, but unfortunately I've had issues with their lens centering on a few copies lately. It's such a headache to keep returning them. Same goes for that Sony fifty... the autofocus is just so loud and jittery compared to their better stuff. Not as good as expected for modern mirrorless tbh. If you want real value without the drama, try these:
- find a used Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 to cover almost everything
- look for a Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 FE if you need a tiny prime that actually performs Dont settle for the absolute cheapest glass just because of the price tag. You'll end up wanting to upgrade in two months anyway. If you find a listing and arent sure about it, just ask.

If you're into macro photography, consider the Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro. It's one of the more affordable macro options for Sony, coming in around $500. It doubles as a nice portrait lens too, making it quite versatile for the price.

Don't forget about used lenses! You can often find great deals on older Sony lenses or even adapt vintage lenses to your Sony camera. KEH and MPB are good places to look for used gear.

Rokinon and Samyang are identical, known for budget-friendly lenses. While more affordable than Tamron and Sigma, they've established a reliable reputation, particularly with prime lenses. They're the only budget brand I'd recommend based on their track record. Other budget options like 7artisans exclusively produce manual focus lenses, limiting their appeal for some photographers.
