Just pre-ordered the PS5 Pro and my wallet is already crying but I want to make sure I have everything ready for when it arrives next month. Ive been looking around and obviously everyone is talking about the disc drive since it doesnt come with one which is super annoying but I already have that on my list. I saw some people online saying the old vertical stand works if you just wedge it in there but then others are saying the new slim/pro specific one is the only safe way to go and I dont want my expensive new brick falling over... I live in a pretty small place in Brooklyn so it has to stand up to save desk space.

I have about 300 bucks left for extras and Im trying to figure out what actually makes a difference for the Pro specifically. Here are my main things:

  • Needs to be space-saving because my desk is tiny
  • I play mostly single player stuff like Elden Ring and GOW so maybe a better controller?
  • I heard the DualSense Edge is good but the battery life sounds like a nightmare for long sessions
  • Also maybe a heat sink for an SSD? I have a 2TB drive from my old PS5 but I dont know if the Pro runs hotter and needs a specific type of cooling.

Is the Portal actually worth it if I just want to play in bed? Or should I just stick to a long charging cable and a nice headset? Im honestly lost on whether these pro accessories are just marketing or if they actually help with the better hardware...

  • Use the Sabrent M.2 NVMe PS5 Heatsink if your old drive is bare. It replaces the internal metal cover to help with thermals, which is a safer bet for the Pro since it might run hotter...
  • For the battery issues, the Sony PlayStation DualSense Charging Station is a decent option. It saves space on a tiny desk and ensures your controllers stay ready without messy cables.

Caught this late. What are you using for audio? Honestly, the Portal is unfortunately a letdown in NYC apartments cuz of the Wi-Fi congestion. I had constant stuttering. If you want immersion for GOW, I'd skip the handheld and get the Sony PlayStation Pulse Elite Wireless Headset instead. The planar drivers are wild for the price. Its way better than a laggy remote play screen that doesnt feel pro at all.
