Ive been a day one buyer since PS2 but this Pro launch is making me super anxious with the missing disc drive and stand. Already blew my 700 dollar budget and now Im worried about stock issues before mine arrives next week. What are the absolute must-have accessories to actually use this thing?

Honestly, congrats on the upgrade. I have been super satisfied with my Pro and the setup was a breeze, so try not to stress too much. Having been around since the PS1 days, that launch anxiety is totally normal. If you are worried about what you actually need to get the most out of it, here is what has worked well for me.

Just saw this thread and honestly, I get the anxiety. I’ve been pretty satisfied with my Pro so far, but I approach these things from a safety first angle. After losing a launch PS4 to a brownout a few years back, I’m super paranoid about protection. I spent a lot of time comparing how to keep the hardware safe and settled on a few things that work well:

  • Power Protection: Dont just use a cheap strip. I swear by the APC Performance SurgeArrest 11-Outlet for my setup. It has a massive joule rating compared to something like the Amazon Basics 6-Outlet Surge Protector Power Strip. The basic ones are fine for a lamp, but for a $700 console, you want the heavy-duty stuff.
  • Charging: I tried a cheap third-party dock initially but it felt flimsy and made me worry about the ports. Switched to the Sony PlayStation 5 DualSense Charging Station and it is much more solid. It handles the power draw properly and the click-in mechanism is super reliable compared to those generic ones you see everywhere.
  • Controller: If you can swing it later, the Sony DualSense Edge Wireless Controller is a game changer. The standard DualSense is fine, but having back paddles and the ability to swap stick modules means I dont have to worry about stick drift ruining the whole thing, tho it is definitely an investment. Taking care of the basics like power and charging has kept my mind at ease. If you're gonna drop that much cash, keeping it safe is the priority... everything else can wait until the next paycheck lol.

Building on the earlier suggestion, power stability is key, but dont sleep on your network chain. Got some tips for that, but first, are you planning on a wired or wireless setup? If you go wired, you gotta ensure your specs match the pros hardware to avoid lag.

  • use cat6 cables
  • check for shielding Its a cheap way to avoid bottlenecks.
